Downtown 2034:  Envision Lake Zurich

Volunteers Needed for Downtown Vision Process

The Village of  Lake Zurich is seeking interested residents, business owners, and other community stakeholders to participate in a future working group that will consider a new vision for downtown Lake Zurich.

Recent economic challenges require us to re-examine the planned future for downtown Lake Zurich.  What should future development look like?  What type of commercial activity should be sought?  What type of buildings do we want?  What should downtown public gathering spaces look and feel like?   These are just a few of the important questions that need to be answered as we plan for the next 20 years and beyond.

As economic opportunities begin to open up across our region and in our Village, it is important for us to establish and communicate our vision for Lake Zurich's downtown.  If you are interested in volunteering your time for this important initiative, please fill out the brief survey below.

Interested in Serving on the Plan Commission?

Village Seeks New Plan Commissioner

Throughout the history of Lake Zurich, the Village has been fortunate to be served by citizen volunteers who contribute their talents, abilities, and time for the benefit of the Village.  We are currently looking for a qualified individual to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Plan Commission.

The Plan Commission is a nine member commission scheduled to meet the third Wednesday of every
month at 7:00 pm.  It is responsible for long-range planning for Lake Zurich and making recommendations to the Village Board on development issues and proposals, including special use permits, subdivisions plats, planned unit developments, ordinance text and amendments, special exceptions to parking requirements, and other projects as assigned.

If you or someone you know has an interest in serving on this important public body, please fill out an appointment application by using the link below.

Completed applications may be e-mailed to [email protected] or dropped off at Village Hall, 70 East Main Street.

Street Light Modernization Program

Using Green Technology to Brighten Lake Zurich's Future

The Village is preparing to launch a Street Light Modernization Program that would use LED lights to gradually replace traditional street lighting throughout the Village.

This would significantly save on annual electricity costs and use far less energy, thus reducing the cost of municipal operations and having a positive impact on the environment.

Currently, one LED "test light" has been installed on the south-east side of the Village at the corner of Pheasant Ridge Drive and Partridge Lane.  We want to know what you think about it.  Feel free to drive by and check it out.

If you have any feedback on the LED lighting, please let us know at [email protected].

More test lights will be installed in the near future.

Route 53/120 Expansion Project

Public Input Sessions in November

How much do you know about the land use plan being developed for the Route 53/120 extension?

This plan will consider a corridor within the area roughly bound by Lake Cook Road on the south, I-94 on the east, Route 12 on the west, and Chain O' Lakes on the north.  The Corridor Land Use Plan should help ensure that, in addition to relieving congestion, the Route 53/120 extension integrates the preservation of open space, increased access to transit, and enhanced economic development.

YOUR input will help ensure the Corridor Land Use Plan will protect community assets.

Upcoming open houses are scheduled for November 12 in Grayslake and November 19 at Lake Zurich High School.
