A Message From Mayor Tom Poynton |
I would like to take a brief moment to thank all of the engaged citizens who voted on November 4.
Thank you for your interest in the home rule referendum, whether you were in favor or opposed to the issue. The residents have spoken and the home rule referendum did not achieve enough votes to pass.
The legacy financial and development issues that we face as a community do not go away with the home rule decision. We will continue to work hard to do the best we can for this great community.
You have helped us clarify the line in the sand that will keep us focused on providing the best services, infrastructure, and special events that we can afford as we attempt to live within our means.
Thank you for being an engaged citizen!

Tom Poynton
Mayor

Now That The Election Is Over... |
Remember to Remove Election Signs
The Village of Lake Zurich would like to remind property owners that local ordinance requires all election signs to be removed from yards within five days following an election.
Please help keep Lake Zurich looking clean and neat by making sure election signs are removed by this Sunday, November 9.
For other property maintenance reminders, please visit the Community Services Department.

Trustees Work to Improve the Village |
Village Board Approves New Contract to Improve Service at Reduced Rates
In a time where costs for basically everything are increasing, the Village has succeeded in negotiating a new contract with Waste Management that actually lowers costs for
residents.
On November 3, 2014, the Village Board approved a new refuse collection contract with Waste Management that brings some positive changes for Lake Zurich - new refuse carts and reduced rates.
Waste Management will be supplying residents with either a 96-gallon or 64-gallon two-wheeled refuse cart beginning March 1, 2015.
Accompanying the change in how refuse is collected will be a reduction in rates.
Effective April 1, 2015, the monthly rate will decrease 10.8% to $22.39 for residents who opt for the 96-gallon cart and 21.7% decrease to $20.39 for users of the 64-gallon cart.
Waste Management will still continue once a week recycling collection, unlimited yard waste collection from April to November, leaf collection in the autumn months, and holiday tree collection during the first two weeks of January.

Leaves in Street Can Cause Flooding |
Leaf Collection Reminder
Fall leaf collection will be occurring throughout Lake Zurich until the end of November.
As a reminder, leaves should be raked into the parkway within 4 feet of the curb, but not over the curb and into the street. Please try to keep leaves out of the street.
As seen in the above picture, when leaves are raked into the street, maintaining a storm sewer system becomes difficult and often results in localized roads flooding since drainage basins are blocked.
More information on leaf collection.

Recent Thefts Prompt Warning |
Avoid Being a Victim of Crime
Lake Zurich police are warning residents to keep their cars locked, valuables out of the car and out of sight when they are parked outside overnight or for a short period of time. In recent days vehicles have had their windows brok en and valuables such as purses taken.
Police call this a 'crime of opportunity' and urge residents not to make themselves easy victims. While police patrols have been stepped up, residents are being urged to stay alert, report suspicious people by calling 911, keep vehicles locked, and keep valuables out of the car and out of sight.

Be Careful With Fires This Autumn |
High Winds Can Easily Spread Fire The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department reminds residents to beware of high winds this autumn when burning a recreational fire. High winds can cause smoke and burning embers to spread quickly.
Burn only firewood, not leaves or paper. The picture below is NOT the recommended location for an outside fire pit. Wood decks are bad and be sure to stay away from structures. Do not leave the fire unattended and keep children away from the burning fire. Have a safe and happy autumn in Lake Zurich.

Delinquent Property Tax Letter to Seniors
The Village has become aware that a scam is being targeted towards senior homeowners.
Seniors are receiving a letter in the mail claiming that Lake County will take their house if they don't pay delinquent taxes on their property. If you received one of these letters, you do not need to take any action if your taxes have been paid in full.
If you have any questions or want to double-check the status of your payment, please call the Lake County Treasure's Office at 847-377-2323 or check online at Lake County Treasurer.
DO NOT contact the person listed on the letter. Please share this information with friends and neighbors so that we make sure everyone is alerted to this scam.

EAB Action Plan Moving Forward |
Residents Welcome to Participate in Action Plan The Village is moving forward with the multi-year action plan that calls for the removal of some 2,700 trees infested with the Emerald Ash Borer beetle by late 2016.
Want to Remove Sooner? Some residents have inquired if the Village will allow them to remove an infested tree on the parkway in front of their house sooner than when the Village is scheduled to remove it. The answer is yes. A no fee removal application is available here. Want to Plant Sooner?
Residents interested in paying for a replacement tree once the infested tree has been removed are asked to complete this no fee planting application. The no fee planting application helps ensure the tree planting is in an appropriate location and is an approved species. We want to ensure tree diversification throughout the Village to protect against future unknown infestations.

Route 53/120 Expansion Project |
Public Input Sessions in November
How much do you know about the land use plan being developed for the Route 53/120 extension?
This plan will consider a corridor within the area roughly bound by Lake Cook Road on the south, I-94 on the east, Route 12 on the west, and Chain O' Lakes on the north. The Corridor Land Use Plan should help ensure that, in addition to relieving congestion, the Route 53/120 extension integrates the preservation of open space, increased access to transit, and enhanced economic development.
YOUR input will help ensure the Corridor Land Use Plan will protect community assets.
Upcoming open houses are scheduled for November 12 in Grayslake and November 19 at Lake Zurich High School.
