The Short Week
|
This week was the Passover/Easter week when the Legislature traditionally does not meet. Following that tradition, legislators stayed home during this the seventh week of the 60-day session, and will return Monday, April 21.
At this point in Session, both houses have passed their respective 2014-2015 budgets, Senate President Gaetz has appointed budget conferees from his chamber, and Senate Appropriations Chair Joe Negron has stated that conference committees will begin meeting on Monday. However, as this Legislative Link hit the wires, House Speaker Weatherford had not yet appointed House conferees.
During the remaining two weeks of Session, the Legislature will perform its only constitutionally-required responsibility - passing next year's budget. The House and Senate will also pass bills awaiting hearing on their respective floors. Bills that have not reached the House or Senate floor generally stand little chance of passing.
