President's Message

The newsletter officially kicks off the 2015-2016 Rotary year. First off, I want to say thank you to those East Salem Rotary Club members who served so bravely in the armed forces. Thank you for your service.

I want to remind everyone that the golf tournament proceeds pays for ESR's portion of the dictionary project. This year, we need to raise $2,040. Please consider signing up to play or to sponsor a hole -- or donate $60 to cover the cost of one box of books.  I hear you don't have to be an exceptional golfer to participate! Tom Marks is our club contact for the event so contact him to help us reach our goal.

Our guest speaker this Friday will be Jarred Hibbert-Swanson from Marion Polk Food Share.  He will be talking about their partnership with the community garden program.

We have reset TouchPoints for the new year. Recognition awards will be handed out at the July 31 meeting. Be sure to continue to fill out the survey each week -- and keep being involved in Rotary!

The My Rotary website had the following article:

"RI President-elect K.R. Ravindran introduced a member benefits program at the 9 June closing session of the 2015 Rotary International Convention, saying that many more hands are needed to continue Rotary's work around the world.

The program, Rotary Global Rewards, aims to boost membership and enhance member satisfaction. It will debut on 1 July.

"This innovative new program will allow Rotary members to connect with hundreds of businesses and service providers from around the world -- and that number is growing," said Ravindran. "These establishments will offer Rotarians discounts and concessions on the everyday business that you do. And, in many cases, not only will you benefit, but our Foundation will as well, by receiving a contribution with each transaction."

The program will include discounts on car rentals, hotels, dining, and entertainment. Discounts on more products and services from companies worldwide are expected to be added throughout the year."

Club News

21st Annual Salem Area Rotaries Charity Golf Tournament

Tom attended a Rotary Golf Committee meeting last Thursday and learned some things. They include, but were not limited to:

  • We are to run all money for the tournament through our East Salem account.
  • Please turn in your golf, sponsor, and dictionary registrations to Tom Marks
    • New sponsors have a July 10th deadline so we can produce the sponsor flags
    • Auction items and Door prizes are due July 16th. Take to Sunset Club meeting or the final Committee meeting July 16th .

Please let me know if you have signed up for golf and who you will be playing in your group. Ask a business where you spend money if they would be willing to sponsor a golf hole for $150.00. If not, ask about a box of dictionaries for $60.00.

Remember, you can register online at www.ESRgolf.com

Because there is no meeting this week due to the 4th of July Holiday, it's important to take action now, not after the holiday.

Make President Mary proud of her club and how we all pulled together to support the dictionary project!
