Three Douglas County seniors earn perfect ACT scores

Seniors Benjamin King (left) of Rock Canyon High School, Julie Newman (center) of Mountain Vista High School and Shawn Ong (right) of Douglas County High School each earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT.

 

According to the Colorado Department of Education, Newman and Ong are two of seventeen students in the state who earned a perfect score on the state-administered ACT.  King earned his perfect ACT score outside the state-administered ACT.  The ACT is administered six times a year.  According to the ACT, over 1.6 million students took the ACT in 2012.  Less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earns the top score of 36.

DCSD celebrates Veterans Day

Douglas County students and staff made a special effort to commend all branches of the military in honor of Veterans Day. Observations around the District included those at Cimarron and Mountain Ridge Middle Schools, North Star Academy and Pine Lane Elementary School.

Shadow the Chef Day winner receives surprise announcement

Douglas County School District (DCSD) Chef Jason Morse, CEC, along with members of the DCSD Nutrition Services team, made a surprise visit and announcement Wednesday at American Academy-Castle Pines (AA-CP).

Morse named AA-CP 5th Grader Kate Inman as this year's winner of the district-wide Shadow the Chef Day competition. Read more 

 

Career Connect brings the world of work to
eighth-graders
More than 5,000 eighth grade students attended the annual "Career Connect 8th Grade Expo" on Wednesday, November 13.

 

The Expo is a one-day event for all of Douglas County School District's (DCSD) eighth-grade students to explore a wide range of career opportunities, interview business leaders, and meet with higher education representatives.

The Board of Education will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, November 19 in the Board Room of the Wilcox Administration Building at 620 Wilcox Street in Castle Rock. The regular sessions is scheduled to be held from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Follow this link to view meeting agendas and minutes.
