Youth Congress prepares DCSD students to lead state
A group of Douglas County teens looked at home underneath the dome at the state capitol, debating serious issues including hydraulic fracturing, known as "fracking", and school funding. While they're not legislators yet, current day leaders say it won't be long before the students, representing all nine high schools in Douglas County, are leading the state. Read more

Ranch View Middle School CODE Club sets high tech goals
For the average person, technical jargon like "end code" and "Java script" are very unfamiliar terms. But for a group of students in Ranch View Middle School's CODE Club, it is all part of their daily language.
"You get to learn a lot of new and very powerful skills in the world of computer science. Some of those include basic PHP and Java script, others include very complicated Ruby and Python programming languages," says 8th grade CODE club member Konstantin Zarenski. Read more

Carrie Stephenson draws from past experiences to lead Mesa Middle School
Not many people have the vision--let alone the willpower--to build an abandoned Greyhound bus into a family trailer. But for Mesa Middle School principal Carrie Stephenson, it's this innovative, undaunted, creative spirit that makes her fit so well into her role as the leader of the school.
This is Stephenson's first leadership role at a middle school, and Mesa has proven to be a completely different and demanding experience than from her years at some of Castle Rock's elementary schools. Read more
