Mammoth Heights brings winter to Belize
Snowmen in the tropical country of Belize sounds like an absurd concept, but with the help of Jean Kirshner and her first graders at Mammoth Heights Elementary, Belize youngsters were given the chance to experience something Coloradans often take for granted: Snow.
"They're putting together kits so that the children in Belize can make snowmen," Kirshner explained. "So that they can better understand our home and make connections with us." Read more |

Dr. Peter Thompson named "Colorado School Psychologist of the Year"
The Colorado Society of School Psychologists named Dr. Peter Thompson, the school psychologist at Rocky Heights Middle School and Traumatic Brain Injury Coordinator for the Douglas County School District, the Colorado School Psychologist of the Year.
"It is with great respect and humility that I accept this honor not just for me, but also for the District and for the students I serve," said Thompson. Read more

Douglas County a magnet for Pine Lane principal
Time and time again, Pine Lane Elementary Principal Danelle Hiatt has been drawn back to Douglas County School District. Now, she is in a postion to bring even more high quality teachers to DCSD.
"I always wanted to come back," she said. "I felt like this was my home base, felt very supported and I missed the people. Douglas County has (also) always been, to me, innovative and progressively moving forward and that's something that inspires me and feeds my passion." Read more |
Mountain Vista defends 5A Boys cross country title
The Golden Eagles boys' cross-country team took home the state trophy on Saturday October 26, after defending their state title.
Three of the Mountain Vista boys finished in the top 25, hoisting the team on top for the second year in a row. Read More

Take your best shot and enter the Douglas County School District's Fall Photography Contest! We are looking for great photos that demonstrate the variety of talent existing right here in our schools and support locations.
The contest began on October 23, and will end November 22, 2013 at 5 p.m.

STEM Women and Our Daughters event slated for November 2 Girls, moms and dads, together with business and industry professionals and leaders from higher education, are invited to STEM Women and Our Daughters Changing the World
on November 2 at Ranch View Middle School from 9 a.m. to noon.
There will be prizes and giveaways throughout the morning and a STEM Resource Fair with booths and display tables from higher education and business and industry leaders. Read more |

Open Enrollment period begins November 1
The first round of open enrollment runs from November 1, 2013 through January 6, 2014.
Families who wish to enroll their student in a school outside of their neighborhood school must complete an Open Enrollment application, that will be available online when the enrollment period begins.
