Rock Canyon Fire Academy students get real-life training experience
Students from the Rock Canyon High School Fire Academy landed a real-life training experience when an Air Life Denver helicopter landed on schools grounds. The pilot and crew proceeded to give the trainees a complete air rescue presentation and hands-on demonstration.
"Firefighters need to know how to land them, how to load them. This happens a lot in seriously traumatic situations in a municipal district and rural areas so it's a viable training," stated Rock Canyon High School Fire Chief George Piccone.

Students strive for Automotive Technician Certification
Dealing with an oil leak, no heat, or a broken headlight? You might entrust those vehicle repairs with a DCSD student trained through Ponderosa High School's (PHS) Auto Mechanics Program.
Automotive Instructor Craig Capraro, a certified technician himself, says the program is in accordance with the Colorado Community College network standards and is capable of training an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) nationally accredited technician.
"It's an automotive program with a high degree of technical rigor, so our students that are going to be technicians come out in really good shape," Capraro said. Read more, watch video

 Principal Profile: Sid Rundle, Cresthill Middle School From the stage to the pulpit, and finally into the classroom, Sid Rundle travelled a long, unique path only to find himself where fate would have it: as the principal of Cresthill Middle School. While an education career seemed to fit in nicely with his teaching parents, sister, and stepmother, Rundle longed for a sense of individuality. He had also lived in Denver his whole life and attended the same Denver Public Schools as his parents; so upon graduation, he set out to find his identity. Read more |

Elementary Schools vie for catered gourmet luncheon
Students at 57 Douglas County School District elementary schools have the opportunity to participate and compete in The Second Annual Put-Away-5-A-Day Fruits & Veggies Challenge October 29 through December 12, 2013.
"The Fruits & Veggies Challenge is all about our mission to support the DCSD community with resources which promote optimum wellness and learning," said DCSD Nutrition Services Director Brent Craig. Read more

Open Enrollment period begins November 1
The first round of open enrollment runs from November 1, 2013 through January 6, 2014.
Families who wish to enroll their student in a school other than their neighborhood school must complete an Open Enrollment application, that will available online when the Open Enrollment period begins.

Girls, moms and dads, together with business and industry professionals and leaders from higher education are invited to STEM Women and Our Daughters Changing the World on November 2 at Ranch View Middle School from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be prizes and giveaways throughout the morning and a STEM Resource Fair with booths and display tables from higher education and business and industry leaders. Read more
