Douglas County recognized as Charter School "Pioneer"

The Colorado League of Charter Schools (CLCS) awarded the Douglas County School District (DCSD) the prestigious Pioneer Award at its 20th Anniversary Celebration held earlier this summer.

"We're honored to receive this award as it acknowledges Douglas County School District's commitment to putting what's best for our students first and our belief in school choice," said Board of Education member Doug Benevento.  "As the only public school district in Colorado to fully embrace charter schools, this recognition truly reemphasizes our belief that parents and families know what is best for their child." "We've heard from parents all over the district who are concerned about how little actual time their kids have to eat lunch. This summer we're gearing up, working to give students more 'table time'. We're hiring and training more cafeteria team members and investing in additional point of service stations, all in an effort to 'buy' students more time to enjoy their lunch," said DCDS Nutrition Services Director Brent Craig.
