We have received complaints that someone representing Alignment Sports is selling advertising for the Chapin High Basketball Program and saying they were referred by the Chamber. CHS and Eagle Club have not contracted with anyone by that name and we cannot find a business listing for such a firm on the Internet so please be aware that this may not be legitimate. We don't give out our membership data to outside companies. Thank you.

Two Great October Lunch & Learns for Small Business!

Filing 1099s and Other Tax Tips for Small Business - Oct. 9 Duane Carter

Need help getting ready to prepare your business returns for 2013? Duane Carter CPA will be sharing information on filing 1099 forms for subcontractors, rents paid, attorney fees and other reported transactions to the IRS. He will also go over collecting W9 forms, contractor vs employee for Federal and SC, and the new rental expense laws. Register online to reserve your space.

 

HR 101 for Small Business - Oct. 30

Elizabeth Smith of Heron Consulting will discuss how small business owners manage their business through a team of employees, contractors, and outsourced resources. She'll discuss the five systems within Talent Management (recruiting, hiring, employing, developing, transitioning) and the implications for managing different "classifications" of human resources. Chamber Annual Meeting - Oct 15 at noon 
Make plans to attend our annual meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at noon at St. Francis of Assisi Church (750 Old Lexington Hwy). We have a full agenda planned, including an update on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act by Mark Riley of American Benefit Services, Grant Jackson talking about the Midlands Reality Check and our annual election of board members. We will also be unveiling our new tiered membership schedule. Ava's Copper Pot Bistro will be catering our lunch and the ladies of St. Francis will treat us with homemade desserts. The Nominating committee presents the following slate of new board members for a three-year term for your consideration:
Brandon Hamm, owner/chef of Vella's of Chapin, has served on the Chamber Board for 2013, filling a one-year vacancy. He is active in the community, supporting a number of businesses, school groups and charitable organizations with catering and fundraisers at Vella's. He has helped support the Chamber Golf Tournament, Annual Gala and Holiday Open House. 
Grace Pound is Human Resources Manager with Ellett Brothers and is currently serving on the Chamber's Gala committee for 2013.
Dr. Ashley Adamson Bills,owns and manages HealthSource Chiropractic of Chapin. She is active in the Young Professionals, the Small Business Networking Group and regularly attends and supports Chamber membership events.
Marcus Slominski, owner of M&W Mobile Marine, has been a Chamber member for more than four years and is interested in helping grow participation by existing members.

Prepare Plan Choose - Examining Life After 50 

Free Four Part Series sponsored by Whitaker Funeral Home 

Whitaker Funeral Home's informational workshop series examining life after 50, continues on Tuesday, Oct. 1 with attorney David Siddons of the Siddons Law Firm discussing the basics of estate planning. The session begins at 7 pm at the Chapin Chamber and will last about an hour. The series is free to attend but space is limited so please register online or call 803-345-1100 to reserve your space. The final session is Tuesday, Oct. 8 featuring Linda Shanabrook of Brook Health Care discussing 10 Signs Your Loved One Needs Help.  

  

What I Love About Chapin! Photo Contest

The Chamber is looking for photos of your favorite places, people and events to promote Chapin as a visitors' destination. Our amateur photography contest is open to area residents and will include cash prizes as well as inclusion in a Chapin 2014 Calendar and postcard series that will be offered at the Chamber and area merchants, with proceeds benefiting the historic Chaffin-Eleazer House building fund. Chapin Election Update
The Town will be holding elections on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. As such the registration deadline to be eligible to vote is drawing near - Oct. 5. To register or update your voter registration, visit scvotes.org to obtain forms and review absentee ballot information.

On the ballot, there are two candidates for Mayor - incumbent Stan Shealy and businessman Skip Wilson - and three candidates for Town Council - incumbents Leland Teal and Robbie Frick and challenger Gregg White are vying for two council seats. In addition, a referendum to allow alcohol sales at Chapin grocery and convenience stores will be decided by Chapin voters.

They have music and dancing with SoundQuest DJ as well as a Silent and Live Auction featuring merchandise and services donated by Chapin area businesses, organizations and individuals. David Rashleigh is one of the business teachers at Chapin High School and he's helping prepare our future workforce. His Marketing Management students need projects they can work on that will teach them about the business world and help solve a marketing or promotional need your business may have! Palmetto Fine Arts Upcoming Art Show This Weekend

Palmetto Fine Arts' art show this weekend features Marilyn Adamson, Mike Loy, Ann Peake, Tommy Thompson & Ron Weathers showing originals and prints of their latest creations.  Meet and Greet the artist on Thursday evening from 6-9 pm or stroll in Friday 10-6 or Saturday 10-4 to just look around and enjoy the art! 107 Virginia Street.

 

Chapin Woman's Club Pecan Sale

Believe it or not, it's time for the Chapin Woman's Club Pecan Sale again. They have pecan halves, pecan pieces, chocolate covered pecans (both milk and dark chocolate), clusters and cinnamon pecans! The price is $10 a bag and they make great gifts! Proceeds benefit a lot of great local causes in our Chapin community as well as provide scholarships for deserving students. So if a Woman's Club member approaches you, please be generous. 

 

Crisis Pregnancy Center of Lake Murray Selling Calendars

CPC Lake Murray is once again selling 2014 Chick-fil-A calendars for only $8. Take them to your office, small groups, churches anywhere you would like.
