Time to Tee It Up for Chapin Chamber Golf Tournament
If you love golf, you won't want to miss this year's 19th Annual Chapin Chamber Golf Tournament, scheduled for Thursday, May 16 at Timberlake Country Club. Registration opens at 9 am, with a 10 am shotgun start. We're following Captain's Choice format and look to have more than 100 golfers participate this year. If you don't play, you can still be part of the fun as we have a number of sponsorship opportunities where businesses can be onsite networking and handing out promotional items. There will be a $5000 Putting Contest, prizes for Hole in One, Closest to Pin, and Longest Drive to name a few. We're having a silent auction of sports memorabilia and great food and drink. Mark your calendar and plan to attend. Take advantage of the Early Bird Discount - pay by April 15 for just $275/team. Call Christina for details - 345-1100.

Spring Into Speed Networking Event with Lake Murray Chamber

Support Chapin's Local Band MinorEffect on Facebook Chapin High School juniors Cameron Daly, Chad Huff, Brayden Manley, Nick Auch and Daniel Amick make up the band MinorEffect, and they have been selected as one of 10 finalists to compete in BB&T's This School Has Talent competition. They were selected out of 130 entries for this statewide contest, and the winner will play with Hootie & the Blowfish at the SC Teacher of the Year Celebration on May 1. MinorEffect has won the Chapin Idol contest and are great ambassadors for our local community. Please vote for them daily on Facebook now through March 31 to give our community another point of pride! You are limited to one vote per 24 hours. The Chapin Lion's Club is taking orders for 10 lb bags of Vidalia Onions for $10. These are great for cooking and eating! Reserve you bag by containg a local Lion member or call John Hossenlop at 917-5724. The Lion's also reminds you that they have a collection box for old eyeglasses and sunglasses at the Chamber House for recycling.
Mt Horeb Lutheran Easter Ham Sale
Mt. Horeb's Global Missions Committee is selling smoked hams for Easter. All proceeds go to help fund Lutheran Campus Ministry's upcoming mission trip to El Salvador. Please consider purchasing your Easter ham through this worthy project. The hams average 8-10 pounds and are spiral cut. Cost of each ham is $40. Call the church office at 345.2000 to place your order by Monday, March 25. Pickup will be Saturday, March 30, from 10:00 am-noon at the church.
Belk Charity Days Help
CPC Lake Murray is looking for volunteers to help them sell tickets for the upcoming Belk Charity Day event in April. They are looking for help on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Belk stores at Columbiana and Richland Malls. If you can help, please contact Lane McKelvey at 912-433-1060.
In addition, they are looking for help to start construction at their 725c Chapin Rd location. Millie Godines of Chapin Christian Gymnastics has offered CPC the front part of her building, which will need to be built out for their use as offices and counseling space. If you are a contractor willing to help or can provide building supplies to their ministry please contact Michelle Nicholson at mnicholson@cpclakemurray.org as soon as possible.
Like Cornhole? Lake Murray Golf Center Can Set You Up
Cornhole is now available for individuals, groups or neighborhood competition! Mike Guerry has game boards set up in USC and Clemson colors, and you can play in their enclosed, climate controlled building. If you'd like to schedule a weekly competition or league, please call Mike at 345-0199 to schedule your dates and times. It's also a good time to book spring birthday parties and picnics at Thunderfalls Miniature Golf. $5 for unlimited play on this 18 hole lighted putt-putt course. Terminix Offers Chamber Member Discount
It's springtime, which means warmer weather andoutdoor plans for all of us, including bugs and termites! Terminix offers free inspections and estimates for Termite Control, Pest Control, and Fireant and Mosquito Control. Terminix is also a licensed contractor for moisture problems and home repair. District 5 Names New Public Information Specialist
Katrina Goggins has joined the staff at Lexington Richland School District 5. Mst recently, Goggins worked as a communications coordinator in Orangeburg, SC. She has more than 10 years of journalism experience and has worked for a number of media outlets including The State, the South Carolina Radio Network and The Associated Press. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Clemson University and attended graduate school at the University of South Carolina.
Chapin Elementary Students Give Back to Fight Cancer
Fourth grader Kyle Marchese was recognized this week by School District 5 for her donation of birthday money to help a second-grade student battling cancer. Her generosity set off a chain of examples of students donating their allowances, even tooth fairy money, to help the school's Relay for Life fundraiser. So far the school has raised more than $2,600, and students, teachers and parents will join cancer survivors and others at the Relay for Life event at Harbison Recreation Center. Dr. Stephen Hefner commended Kylie's efforts and called her a "shining example of what our district has to offer" in terms of building character and encouraging community involvement.

Chapin Theatre's Simply Divided Continues This Weekend
It' not too late to catch this weekend's showings of comedy, Simply Divided, which runs March 21, 22, 23 (8 pm) and closes on March 24 (3 pm). Boating Safety Class Scheduled for April 13
The US Coast Guard Auxiliary is holding a boating safety course on Saturday, April 13 from 8:30 am to 5 pm at the American Legion Post 193, 102 Lexington Avenue. The class will feature information on operating boats, personal watercraft and trailering a boat as well as water sport safety, navigation aids, knot tying and emergency procedures.Pre-registration is required as class size is limited. Chamber Corner
As a member of the Midstate Chamber Coalition, we work with Midlands area chambers to promote our region and foster greater cooperation. We are also working closely with the Irmo Chamber as we share a number of members and have similar interests on this side of Lexington County.
Medicaid Expansion - Should SC Participate?
Business Roundtable Breakfast - March 28 at 7:15 am - Doubletree Inn
The Columbia and Lexington Chambers are co-hosting an informative breakfast for the entire community to learn about the pros and cons of the pending health care issue facing South Carolina. According to Ike McLeese, Columbia Chamber, and Randy Halfacre, Lexington Chamber, "the decision regarding Medicaid expansion is probably the single most critical public policy facing South Carolina in this decade. The implications are staggering and everyone needs to understand the potential impacts facing health care in our State."
There will be a panel discussion featuring Tony Keck, director of SC Health & Human Services Dept., Thornton Kirby, President & CEO of the SC Hospital Association, and Chuck Beaman, Palmetto Health. Chapin Recycling Day - March 23 from 10 am - 1 pm
Join RE/MAX Real Estate Consultants for their second annual recycling collection at their parking lot, located at 1303 Chapin Road. They are partnering with Shred 360 to take old documents and electronic equipment for recycling; used household items for His House Ministries, usable cell phones for US soldiers serving overseas and canned food items for Chapin's We Care.
Community of Character Service Day - April 13
Interested in volunteering for Chapin's annual Community of Character Service Day, Saturday, April 13? Churches, civic groups, school students, businesses and individuals are making a difference by volunteering in a variety of clean-up and service activities all over Chapin. To sign up for a project, click here for a form. They are keeping a list of community projects as well as matching volunteers looking to help out.
Kari Pepper McKeone is leading this year's planning and she is looking for businesses to offer discounts and special incentives to their customers who have participated in the Service Day.
