in observance of Veterans Day.  The library will reopen on Saturday, November 12th at 9:00 a.m. 


The Library will be closed on Thursday & Friday, November 24th -25th in observance of Thanksgiving.  The Library will reopen Saturday, November 26th at 9:00 a.m.

The Scots-Irish and the Settling of Washington County, Maryland

Many Scots-Irish first settled in nearby central Pennsylvania.  We will discuss the impact that this group had on the early settlement of Washington County Maryland.

Fall is officially here! The changing weather is ushering in new and exciting happenings throughout WCFL. This month is full of great activities including family movie events, live music, informative classes, and historical lectures.

Effective December 1st


The Fletcher Branch in Hagerstown will begin opening at 10:00 am Monday-Saturday.  It will contunue to open at 1:00 pm on Sunday.  All other branches will open 1/2 hour later than their current schedule most days except weekends.  You may pick up a new bookmark at any branch library with hours for all locations beginning November 1st.

Ready to Serve: A Story from Base Hospital 18


Wednesday, November 9th @ 7:00

Storyteller Ellouise Schoettler brings her new one-woman show Ready to Serve: A Story from WWI Base Hospital 18 to Hagerstown, MD .
Ready to Serve is a personal story of the unknown Johns Hopkins nurses who donned Army uniforms and served with Hopkins Base Hospital 18 where they cared for hundreds of wounded soldiers. This true story is drawn from their letters. Schoettler says, "These gutsy women who stepped up to serve their country at war capture your heart."

 Introducing the Sun!

Explore our nearest star and discover its many secrets and mysteries.  The sun provides the Earth with heat, light, and energy that makes life possible.  It has been producing energy for more than four billion years and will contine to do so for at least four billion more.  
This program is presented by Jim O'Leary from the Maryland Science Center in conjunction with the Sun Exhibit on display at the Fletcher Library in Hagerstown.

A pictorial display of the history  of the Korean War will be on exhibition in the library.  These panels are provided by the Korean War Veterans Association Antietam Chapter 312.
National Geographic Giant State Map
Saturday, November 5th @ 12pm 




Kids of all ages can take a 
"feet-on" approach to geography.  They can explore, hop around, compete, collaborate and have fun learning about the great Old Line State of Maryland. 
Provided by MD Geographic Alliance.
Located in the 1st floor atrium.
No Registration needed.


Fall Trivia Night

 A PEEP into Science: Ramps
Saturday, November 19th @ 11:00 am


Join us in the Big Wide World of Ramps for this hands-on science adventure! Children and their caregivers will build ramps and explore what rolls and what does not. For ages 3-5 Pre-registration with the Children's Desk is required.
