On January 6th, join us for a free concert by Andrew McKnight, nationally-acclaimed singer/songwriter and guitarist from northern Virginia's Blue Ridge. Celebrating rural America, McKnight's music weaves songs, humorous stories and poetic drama into a musical soundscape sketched with shades of Appalachia, tasteful slide and jazzy blues, feisty anthems, and rustic folk.
The free concert begins at 3:00 PM at the Clear Spring Leonard P. Snyder Memorial Branch Library.
Reservations are appreciated, so please call 301-842-2730 to reserve a seat.

Special Civil War Discussions
Join us in Boonsboro to discuss 3 fascinating books about the U.S. Civil War
With the recent anniversary of the Battle of Antietam, and the ongoing commemoration of the Civil War, you may find yourself wondering more about what the world was like 150 years ago. We're excited to be working with Antietam National Battlefield to sponsor a series of book discussions on different aspects of the American Civil War. We'll read selections from three books: March by Geraldine Brooks; Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam, by James McPherson; and America's War: Talking About the Civil War and Emancipation on Their 150th Anniversaries, a new anthology edited by Edward L. Ayers. Our readings and discussions will focus on different perspectives of the Civil War and the varying experiences of individuals from different genders, ethnicities and backgrounds.Discussions will be held at the Boonsboro Branch Library. Meet the leaders and learn about the series at an introductory reception at 7:00 PM on January 18. Conversations will begin at 7:00 PM and are scheduled for Fridays: January 18, February 8, March 8, and April 5. A tour of the Antietam Battlefield on Saturday, April 20 (starting time to be determined) will conclude the series of programs. Registration is requested. Please call Pat at 301-739-3250 x186 or register online at our calendar of events. Thanks to the Maryland Humanities Council for generous support of this program. |
Ebooks and More
Want to learn about ebooks or online audiobooks? We can help. Did you get a new ereader for Christmas? Maybe a friend or relative talks about getting free ebooks from the library and you want to find out more? We'll be having an open-house on Jan. 7 at North Pointe, from 5 to 7. Drop in anytime during those hours to ask questions, get help with your reader, or just learn more about ebooks.
In case you can't make it on the 7th, here's the basic info - and where to get details:
We have ebooks from a service called Maryland Digital Elibrary. With your library card, you can check out up to 6 ebooks at a time, and read them right in your browser, or download them onto your reader with a free app. For more, see this introduction.
We have e-audiobooks from two different places: the Md. Digital Elibrary mentioned above, and also from another service called OneClickDigital. In both cases, you can download audiobooks directly onto your phone or tablet with a free app, or you can download them onto your computer and then transfer them over to your MP3 player, phone, tablet, etc. For details about OneClickDigital, look here, and see our guide.
And of course - feel free to contact us with questions. |
