In the old days, the library came to you in a horse-drawn wagon -- and the bookmobile still travels all over the county.  But we also come to you through the internet, in lots of different ways ... check us out!

Book Fair at Books-A-Million Benefits the Library

Are you looking for a novel way to support your library and get some early holiday shopping done at the same time? If so, we've got just the thing.  The library will be the beneficiary of a book fair on Friday, November 16, from 4:00 and 8:00 pm at the Books-A-Million store in the Valley Mall. The library receives a portion of every sale during those hours.

Something's always happening @ your library. Browse our calendar of events to see what's going on at a branch near you!

Special Event: Civil War in Your Attic

Share Your Family's History with the World

examples of Civil War documents in Maryland Digital Cultural Heritage Do you have family letters, diaries, drawings, documents, photos or other items from the Civil War era?  On November 17th, you can get them professionally scanned for inclusion in the statewide collection of Maryland Digital Cultural Heritage.  The project focuses on items created between 1859 and 1867 that reflect life around the time of the Civil War and early Reconstruction periods.

Items you bring must be originals (not photocopies) and should not be copyrighted.  Make an appointment to bring them to the Museum of Fine Arts on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9:00 to 3:30, and Jill Craig, the Library's expert archivist, will meet with you and scan them.  You can receive a copy of the scans, if you like, and they will become a permanent part of Maryland's heritage, on line at MDCH.  For an appointment, or to ask any questions, please contact Jill at 301-739-3250, ext. 142, or [email protected].
