Clean Air Strategy Renewal
Global Rush on Fresh Water
Integrated Watershed Management Plan
Meet Ryan Davison, a friend of SEAWA:

Growing up in rural Manitoba, every spring was a lesson in hydrology. Many hours were spent helping the melting runoff along its path or building rafts to explore the sloughs and ravines. It always seemed that the rubber boots were never quite high enough!

I followed this love of water to Saskatoon to train as a Water Resource Engineering Tech. specializing in groundwater. From there my wife and I moved to Medicine Hat to raise our family, where I have worked as an Agriculture Water Specialist with PFRA for the last 30 years.

The complexities of water are many and varied, from quantity to quality it touches us every day. Thanks to SEAWA , we all now have an opportunity to become involved in managing the future of our water.

Happy World Wetlands Day!

World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on February 2. This day marks the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on February 2,1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.  Read more here.

Alberta produced its first Clean Air Strategy in 1991 but a lot has changed since the original was developed. The purpose of the renewed Clean Air Strategy is to, "position the province to better anticipate and prevent impacts that could negatively affect air quality." Read the Alberta Government document here.

So what exactly IS a 100-year flood, and how is it determined?

A "100-year flood" is an estimate of  the long-term average recurrence interval, which does not mean that we really have 100 years between each flood of greater or equal size. More from the USGS here .

"Water Grabbers: A Global Rush on Freshwater"

This National Geographic series examines how grabbing land and water from poor people and future generations threatens local cultures, global food security and environmental sustainability.
