Many of you have toured our facility in Myrtle Beach, SC and will recognize the many amazing animals showcased in National Geographic's show titled, SUPER CAT. Filmed entirely on location at T.I.G.E.R.S. Preserve, National Geographic brought their team of expert film makers and scientists to document the work being done by Bhagavan "Doc" Antle. The writers at National Geographic described this episode...
- Take Kobe Bryant's ability to jump, add Michelle Kwan's grace and beauty, then mix well with Stephen Hawking's problem-solving genius -- and you've got the recipe for Super Cat. We've combined the most amazing features of big cats to showcase the most awe-inspiring capabilities ever seen in action. Watch this ultimate feline live all nine lives as its superpowers of strength, endurance and stealth are put to the test.
Mark your calendars for Friday evening, November 29th at 10PM ET to witness a connection between humans and endangered animals like you've never seen before. This episode is a great way to learn about the international conservation efforts needed to protect these endangered species and the ongoing efforts of the Rare Species Fund.
As you may know, the 2014 Guinness Book of World Records titled Hercules as the "world's largest living feline". This episode of Nat Geo's SUPER CAT will provide an up-close and personal view of our ligers. Zues, the nearly 900 pound liger, will star in this episode along with adorable tiger cubs, swimming tigers and amazing views of a Bengal tiger - one of the world's largest wild cats. You'll recognize the T.I.G.E.R.S. Preserve leopards and you may even catch a glimpse of Bubbles playing in the river!
In this photo, biomechanics expert Dr. Gregory M. Erickson snaps a photo while Doc Antle feeds one of the tiger residents of the Myrtle Beach Safari. As a biomechanics expert, Dr. Erickson is spending time at the Preserve to study the mechanical principles of these awe-inspiring creatures, particularly their movement and structure. Dr. Erickson researched and studied the bite force of various big cats from measurements taken from their skulls.
Accompanying Dr. Erickson to the Preserve is the Smithsonian Institution's Great Cats curator, Craig Saffoe. Together with the training of Dr. Bhagavan Antle, Mr. Saffoe and Dr. Erickson examined the tiger's swimming technique in the massive swimming complex on the grounds of the Myrtle Beach Safari.
