We are busy getting ready for what promises to be
our largest distribution of quality books to at-risk children in the history of Bernie's Book Bank!
A team of 50 Bernie's Book Bank volunteers and staff members will be at BOOKAMANIA, this Saturday, November 22. We anticipate serving 3,500 children with 12 books each for a total of 42,000 books IN ONE DAY!
BOOKAMANIA is a day of book-related crafts, story hours, performances and entertainment for at-risk children hosted by the Chicago Public Library at the Harold Washington Library Center. This highly anticipated event is one of the centerpieces in the city's literacy initiative. In years past, participating children received ONE book to take home with them and enjoy. This, year WE are providing 12 books to each child!

Bernie's Book Bank collects, processes and distributes quality new and gently used children's books to significantly increase BOOK OWNERSHIP among at-risk infants, toddlers and school age children throughout Chicagoland.
We have distributed more than
3 MILLION books since December 2009 and now serve more than 95,000 at-risk children annually.

To collect, process and distribute 4 MILLION books per year, serving all estimated 300,000 at-risk children in the Chicagoland area with 12 quality books per year by 2016.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH
|
We always strive to make sure our volunteers feel appreciated. But during December each year, we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month with treats, special gifts and daily raffles!  We always need volunteers to help sort, sticker and bag books. If you've never volunteered at our processing center, put it on your holiday bucket list. We welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities - so bring your friends and family!
Got a group? If you have a group of 8 or more people, schedule a private volunteer session. Your team, book group, neighborhood association, civic group or religious group will love the experience!

BARNES & NOBLE HOLIDAY DRIVE
|
We're so grateful to be one of the recipients of Barnes & Noble's 2014 Holiday Book Drive (ongoing now until December 31). Each store invites customers to purchase books for donation at participating stores. You can contribute to the book drive to benefit the children we serve at these locations:

- Crystal Lake
- Deerfield
- Deer Park
- Lincolnshire
- Vernon Hills

GIFT WRAPPING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Volunteers are needed to help gift wrap purchased items while spreading the word about Bernie's Book Bank.
We need gift wrapping volunteers at Barnes & Noble stores on the following dates:
- Friday, November 28, 9 am to 3 pm at the Deerfield store
- Saturday, November 29, 3 pm to 9 pm at the Deerfield store
- Wednesday, December 24, 10 am to 6 pm at the Lincolnshire store

Volunteering at our Processing Center is simple, easy, impactful and guaranteed to make you feel very good knowing you are helping provide quality Books for a Better Life to thousands of children throughout Chicagoland who need them.
