She says she volunteers with us because, "I think reading is the most vital part of learning for a child.  It is an honor to be part of the process in making it possible for children to have their very own personal library."  And when asked what makes Bernie's Book Bank special, she said, "The ENTIRE team--staff and volunteers and the work we accomplish together!  It is also rewarding to volunteer for an organization where you can be part of the process from beginning to end:  donate books, sort/sticker/bag, go on a distribution!" 

     
Suzanne is active in other organizations, such as PEO (a Philanthropic Educational Organization), her church, Junior League of Chicago, and her sorority alumnae association as well as committees for golf, tennis and paddle tennis.  She loves to read, work out, play paddle and regular tennis, golf and cook.  She says, "Those two help balance each other out!" 

     
Suzanne and her daughter, Claire, graciously volunteered to distribute books at an event for "Dreams for Kids", just before Christmas.  Over 1,500 children were able to select a library of 12 books to take home for their personal library.  She said, "The opportunity to assist these kids in choosing their books and watching them make their book selections was extremely gratifying.  Their excitement was astounding!"  Thanks for everything, Suzanne & Claire!

Bernie's Book Bank collects, processes, and distributes quality new and gently used children's books to significantly increase BOOK OWNERSHIP among at-risk infants, toddlers and school age children throughout Chicagoland.

We have distributed more than 2 MILLION books since December 2009 and now serve more than 80,000 at-risk children annually.
