WE DID IT! 2 MILLION BOOKS!

We celebrated the distribution of our 2 MILLIONth book on Thursday, December 19th at The Academy of Global Citizenship on Chicago's south side. Supporters, members of our Board, sponsors and staff were on hand to help us mark this major milestone. Here are some of the highlights. Special thanks to Tom Olk from United Services for capturing the memories!

Students were treated to a story by Master Storyteller Tom Clark.

The Grinch made a surprise visit to help deliver the 2 MILLIONth book, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, with Mrs. Cathy Floriani, wife of the late Bernie Floriani. Cody was selected as an exemplary student by the principal to receive this special honor.

Each student received 6 books each to keep, read, love and trade, plus a special Grinch bookmark.

This classroom asked their teacher if they could come back and have their picture taken with the Grinch.

Our Mission
Bernie's Book Bank facilitates the collection, processing and redistribution of quality new and gently used children's books to significantly increase BOOK OWNERSHIP among
at-risk infants, toddlers and school age children living throughout Chicagoland.
We have distributed more than 1 MILLION books since 2009.
We will distribute 1 MILLION more quality books in 2013.

The Goddard School Book Drive
|

We are excited to announce that The Goddard School for Early Childhood Development is hosting book drives at 18 of their Chicagoland locations, January 2-18, 2014. They will be hosting an open house at a location near you on Saturday, January 18th to celebrate literacy, including storytellers and fun family activities.
The Goddard School's comprehensive play-based curriculum, developed with early childhood education experts, provides the best childhood preparation for social and academic success. To learn more about The Goddard School, please visit www.goddardschool.com

| NEW Volunteer Drop In Hours | |
Drop by our processing center and volunteer to sort, sticker and bag books for the children we serve. We welcome all ages and abilities.
Beginning in January, we will have new volunteer drop in hours:
Tuesdays: 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. 
Wednesdays: 9:30 - 11:30 a.m., 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Thursdays: evening hours have been cancelled
Fridays: 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Saturdays: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Have a group of 4 or more that want to volunteer together? Get your book group, team, department, family and friends and have some fun while helping others! Email our Processing Manager, Joe Hidalgo and he can schedule a group time for you: [email protected]

| What Will You Do in the New Year? |  Is one of your New Year's resolutions to give back? We've got lots of ways for you to become involved! - Tell your friends and family about us.

- Donate your children's outgrown books.
- Host a book drive in your neighborhood, your children's school, your place of worship or your workplace.
