Volunteer Appreciation Weeks continue...
We had a great time celebrating our youngest volunteers on Saturday, Nov. 16th.  Radio Disney was on hand with music, dancing, games and prizes.  Read details and see pictures in this article in the Lake County News-Sun.
  
We're continuing to celebrate our volunteers through December with a special gift when you come into the processing center.
  
We couldn't do what we do without our volunteers - so let us show you how much we appreciate you!  Click here for volunteer times.

Don't forget to come in and enjoy popcorn and lemonade on Thursdays and coffee and cookies on Fridays!

We will be closed on Thanksgiving & Day After Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day so that our staff can celebrate the holidays with family and friends.

Our Mission  

 

Bernie's Book Bank facilitates the collection, processing and redistribution of quality new and gently used children's books to significantly increase BOOK OWNERSHIP among

at-risk infants, toddlers and school age children living throughout Chicagoland.

 

We have distributed more than 1 MILLION books since 2009.

We will distribute 1 MILLION more quality books in 2013.

Here are some fun holiday events to put on your calendar, where you can celebrate the season with your family and support us at the same time!

 

Charity Market VI: Artists & Authors 

Saturday, Nov. 23rd from 9 am to 3 pm at St. Rita's Church in Rockford

Local artists and authors sell high quality wares, with a portion of sales donated to the artist's favorite charity.  Stop by a friend of Bernie's Book Bank, Linda Brodine's booth and check out her book, Quilt Stories

and have it autographed for a great holiday gift.

 

Breakfast with Santa at the Stratford Square Mall with Radio Disney

Saturday, Nov. 30th from 8:30 am to 10:00 am at Food Court at the Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale

Bring in 10 children's books to be donated to Bernie's Book Bank and receive breakfast for 4 at Subway in the Food Court.  Make your reservation today by calling 630-539-1000.

Hindsdale Christmas Walk & Festival of Giving with Radio Disney

Friday, Dec. 6th from 4 pm to 8 pm in downtown Hinsdale

A Message From Brian

Dear Fellow Berniacs,

 

On the brink of reaching our first bold goal, 1 MILLION books a year by 2013, it is important to reflect upon the past four years and to thank all of our supporters, volunteers, staff and Board of Directors present and past for all you have done and continue to do to help advance our mission.  We are so grateful to you for your hard work and dedication!

 

So WHAT's NEXT?!

Bernie's Book Bank is now serving more than 75,000 at-risk Chicagoland children with 12 quality books a year from birth thru 6th grade.

 

HOWEVER, there still remain 225,000 qualifying at-risk Chicagoland children waiting on our services. 

 

That means setting a NEW and BOLDER goal - to be serving all 300,000 at-risk Chicagoland children by 2016 with 4 MILLION books a year!

 

I ask you to continue to support our mission and encourage others to join the movement, we NEED you!
