Do you love Bernie's Book Bank and have more time to give? Be a Volunteer Captain!
On a Distribution:
You will accompany a staff Distribution Specialist to venture into the many schools we serve. Here you will assist in distributing bags of books to each classroom and the students.
In the Warehouse:
You will work closely with the Warehouse Manager to lead groups of volunteers ranging in ages and abilities. You will also work to organize book materials to prepare for upcoming distributions.

Storytellers Wanted!! | |
Are you looking for a way to directly impact the education of children? Consider becoming a Storyteller for Bernie's Book Bank!
In our fast-paced, media-saturated world, telling stories is an important way to teach children that the spoken word is powerful, that listening is an essential skill and that communicating clearly is an art.
Tom Clark, Professional Storyteller, says "Storytelling puts the listener in charge of creating the images in their own imaginations. It is the same skill children must use when they read books that are not filled with pictures. Stories, and books, have the power to transport us by using our imaginations to create images that we can relate to using all the realities of our being."
You'll be fully trained by our Professional Storyteller, Tom Clark, to go out on book distributions or school assemblies and tell stories that delight and engage! Enjoy the very best part of the Bernie's Book Bank experience - making children smile!

Our Mission
Bernie's Book Bank facilitates the collection, processing and redistribution of quality new and gently used children's books to significantly increase BOOK OWNERSHIP among
at-risk infants, toddlers and school age children living throughout Chicagoland.
We plan to be distributing 1 MILLION books per year by 2013.

Joining Team Bernie is only $50.00 per year. Your annual membership will allow us to collect, process and redistribute 160 quality children's books, plus you receive the following benefits:

A Message from Brian |
Dear Fellow Berniacs,
Happy New Year! We are so grateful for all of your continued support in 2012.
AND, we want to thank you for helping us to continue to reach our goals and for holding us accountable.
As we bring in 2013, we are encouraged by the opportunities it will present. When we began, just 3 years ago, we set a bold but reachable goal: collect, process and redistribute 1 MILLION quality books a year by 2013. AND, we are confident we will achieve this goal as planned as our operations and output have been scaling appropriately. In fact, we are very encouraged by the past 2 months. As you may know, on November 13th of 2012, we distributed our 1 MILLIONth book. In the 37 days following, Bernie's Book Bank distributed more than 131,000 quality children's to Chicagoland at-risk children.
It can be done and we welcome the challenge. After all, connecting children needing books with books needing children is worth all the sacrifice, commitment to excellence and dedication it requires.
