Legislative Funding Priorities for 2015 - 2016

The following are the legislative priorities we will be focusing on throughout the state of Florida this year.  Across the state, there are 32 Coalitions and each are working to contact their local legislators and educate them on the Healthy Start program as well as present our priorities for the current contract year.
  1. $3,190,000 for a total of 58 outreach staff serving 32 coalition service areas.  This will provide the ability to serve high risk participants in both urban and rural settings.
  2. $1,089,000 to provide for 22 fetal and infant mortality review (FIMR) teams at a rate of $60,000 per project.
  3. $129,000 for the implementation of a Workforce Learning Management (LMS) System to enhance the workforce's ability to manage diverse training activities, reduce cost among participating human services agencies, and promote sustained employability among the professional and paraprofessional workforce.
  4. $350,000 to support statewide implementation and planning associated with the Nurse Family Partnership.

The Healthy Start Team
From the Director

No matter what it is that you celebrate - Halloween, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas - the one thing that stands out among the rest is likely to be one's family.  Sharing "treats," gathering together for a special meal or exchanging gifts are all part of the family traditions for these celebrations.

As with all family activities, children play an important part in the festivities.  Helping to ensure that children, from the earliest age on, have the best possible start for good health and development is the ever-constant goal of the Healthy Start program.

On behalf of the Healthy Start team, I'd like to wish you and your family a beautiful holiday season filled with wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

Program Director
