Our Loyal Greeter

Boris turned 7 this month so we celebrated his birthday and his dedication as our official greeter. He can be found each and every day - waiting to enthusiastically greet and welcome you - with a waddle and a hello sniff!

Greetings!

We are officially now in the last quarter of 2014 and experiencing the change from Summer to Fall.
When you visit our office we also have a change - you will meet our new receptionist   -  Andrea Wellman

She grew up in Sequim and already knows so many of you!  She is a wonderful addition to our team and is ready to help when you visit.

This time of year is truly our busiest and we look forward
to seeing you.
Health & Medicare
It's fall in the northwest, the leaves are turning, the salmon are returning, and the wind is beginning to get a bit of a chill.  It also means it is time for Medicare Part D - Annual  Enrollment Period.  The time of year, when you have the opportunity to change your Part D prescription drug plan.

This is an important time to consider your options.  Please look for your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) and your annual letter from Castell Insurance outlining how this review will be done for 2015.

PLEASE READ THE LETTER we are sending. It will explain the process for reviewing and changing your prescription drug program.  This is an early heads up.          We will not be doing individual drug reviews for 2015.

You can come to one of our classes and complete a review yourself by using the Medicare site      Click Here        or

call  1-800-MEDICARE ,  or contact the Statewide Health Insurance Benefit Advisors (SHIBA) at (360) 452-3221).

All of these are viable options if you wish to change your Medicare Part D program.  If you are happy with your current program and you have received your ANOC and reviewed your current program,  you may want to stay with the current plan rather than changing.  Either way you should look at the ANOC when it arrives.

We value the relationship we have created with our clients, so we feel the best way to help our clientele is by giving you the tools to complete this review on your own.  It is imperative that our clients understand the process to choose a Medicare Part D program that fits their individual needs.

Thank you for your understanding and your continued support.  We look forward to helping you in the future.

Affordable Care Act
Last year as we embarked on our first adventure with the Affordable Care Act and open enrollment our choices in Clallam County were limited.  We only had plans available from Premera and Lifewise.  This year Premera and Lifewise will be returning with very similar plans to what they offered for 2014.  But for 2015, we will also be adding plans from MODA Health Plan, Inc.

This month I would like to invite you to learn about MODA Health Plan, Inc. the company.

MODA was originally established in 1955 in Portland, Oregon as Oregon Dental Service or ODS.  MODA was the original dental insurance for the International Longshoreman group in Portland.  That group to this day is still group number 00001 with MODA.  MODA must be doing something right to have such a long-standing relationship with a client that could choose any company to work with.  Over the last 5 decades MODA has grown to include health insurance for those in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

In addition to offering individual plans, MODA offers plans for both small and large groups/employers.  The Sequim School District's health insurance plan is with them.  In 2015, they are working with the Washington Health Plan Finder to offer a small business health insurance alternative, through the states SHOP program.

We are excited to be able to partner with them for 2015.

Their company values; service, flexibility, integrity, stewardship, continuity, partnerships, and community are a great fit to the company we try to always be.  They will be offering 10 insurance plans with 5 being available on the Exhange for 2015.

If you would like to know more about MODA to  take a look at their website  Click Here.

Open Enrollment will begin on November 15th.

If you are currently enrolled you must re-enroll
for 2015 before December 23rd.

You will receive a letter from us in mid-October to remind you to make an appointment with your agent and a worksheet to fill out and bring with you to your appointment.

Until November, appreciate the beauty around us as the leaves change colors, break out the crockpots and make some yummy soups and stews and watch a little football.

GO OSU BEAVS!!

Home & Auto
Timing is everything.  I'm sure you've not only heard this before, but you have most likely uttered it yourself.  Whether it's purchasing a new car at the right time of year, selling that rising stock just before it comes back down to earth, or pulling the pizza out of the oven right before overcooking.  Timing matters.

Funny enough the same goes for changing insurance carriers.  Many of my clients are the proverbial "early bird" that gets the worm.  The worm in my case is a few bucks back into your pocket.  If you are thinking of changing your auto and homeowners companies, doing so well in advance of your renewal will pay off.

Statistics show that clients who switch companies 10 or more days prior to their current coverage expiring are less likely to file a claim and cost that company money.

There is such a strong correlation in this data that companies will offer you a discount for shopping in advance.  Often times these "advanced quote" or "early shopper" discounts only last for a year or two.

My theory is that if you are entertaining switching companies you might as well squeeze out every discount made available to you.  The moral of this story is short.  If you are ready to look for a new company or new agency to handle your homeowners and auto insurance, don't wait until the last day.

Calling us weeks in advance to your renewal will save your hard earned $$ when it comes time to switch.

While much of our focus in the office for the next few months will be directed towards the health insurance side of the business, I want to remind you of a couple of important items.

If you have an auto or home policy coming up for renewal please feel free to contact James for a review.  Many folks are pleasantly surprised at what they find out when they do.  Although we do not have the British speaking gecko, we do have the friendly French bulldog to welcome you when you visit our office!

The other area I would like to remind you about is that if you are over the age of 70 ½,  you have to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your retirement accounts.

If you are new to this fact due to your age, or you would like some assistance figuring out your RMD please let me know. There are many rules pertaining to RMD's depending upon your age, as well as the age of your spouse or if you had inherited the account.

In closing, our concept of the agency is that you can find all your financial needs satisfied under one roof, with a family run, locally owned agency who prides itself on providing old fashioned service.

So, please let us know how we may help you.
