Greetings!

Greetings!  I hope that you are having a wonderful summer.  The Washington DC Metro area has been very hot and humid!

Go Blackhawks!

My hometown of Chicago celebrated an amazing victory when the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup this June for the second time in four years.

It was fun to be part of the excitement at game two when I had the honor of visiting with the great Hall of Famer, Stan Mikita, the legendary Center of the 1961 Stanley Cup Blackhawks team.

The new statues of Stan and Blackhawks star, Bobby Hull, look great in front of the United Center.

Our Government At Work

I've continued to provide political
commentary on Fox 5 Morning News and to write about the importance of fiscal responsibility in my role on the Fix The Debt coalition.

The Congress needs to address comprehensive tax reform so that the tax preferences that are working continue and the ones that no longer make economic sense are discontinued.  The key to successful tax reform is to make sure the tax code encourages economic performance and not tax avoidance.

Congress should do a better job of
fulfilling its oversight function and review government programs and their associated costs to ensure our tax dollars are being used wisely and not wasted.

As a final media note, it was fun to have breakfast with Chris Matthews and talk about old times when he worked for Speaker Tip O'Neill and I was on the Democratic leadership team.

Helping Out

It is an honor to be great friends with a national expert on diagnosing and treating sleep disorders, Dr. Elliott Alpher, of The Alpher Center.  He provides non-surgical help for people with sleep apnea and jaw pain.

Dr. Alpher and his colleagues at the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain (AACP) are trying to help professionals in the transportation industry who have sleep apnea as they deal with safety requirements being enacted by the Federal government.

It was a pleasure to help facilitate the exchange of information between AACP and the Department of Transportation.  It is a win-win for us all when the government listens carefully to experts before moving forward on regulatory rules.

In closing, I am incredibly grateful for many things, but especially my family, friends, and all of you wonderful business colleagues.  Please stay in close touch and enjoy the rest of summer.
