The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is pleased to announce the National Organic Program's (NOP) response to the National Organic Standards Board's (NOSB) April 2016 recommendations. We are also pleased to share a new grant opportunity, and announce the opening of National Farmers Market Week.

NOP Response to NOSB April 2016 Recommendations

At its April 2016 meeting, the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB), a citizen advisory committee, made a number of recommendations concerning the USDA organic standards and National List. The NOP has posted a response to these recommendations. The response describes the background for each NOSB recommendation, the NOP's acknowledgement of each specific recommendation, and the NOP's plans for considering the recommendation.

Training, Outreach and Technical Assistance Grants - Due July 29, 2016

USDA has announced the availability of $8.4 million in competitive grants to support the work of partner organizations that provide training, outreach and technical assistance for socially disadvantaged, tribal and veteran farmers and ranchers. USDA's Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers Program, also known as the 2501 Program, is administered by the Office of Advocacy and Outreach (OAO).
Proposals for these competitive grants must be received by July 29, 2016 at www.grants.gov. National Farmers Market Week

USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack has officially declared August 7-13, 2016, as the 17th annual National Farmers Market Week, highlighting the key role that farmers markets play in bringing communities together around agriculture.
If you're a market manager, USDA has resources to help you celebrate. USDA is offering free online National Farmers Market Week graphics and templates to help you customize posters, emails, websites and other promotional materials.
