The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) National Organic Program (NOP) is pleased to share a reminder regarding organic import requirements.
USDA Reminds Organic Importers of Requirements
The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) enforces the USDA organic regulations for domestic and imported organic agricultural products through the National Organic Program (NOP). As part of a larger effort to strengthen oversight of organic international trade, AMS has published a Notice to Trade informing importers of handling requirements needed to maintain the integrity of imported organic agricultural products
This notice reminds U.S. importers that agricultural products fumigated with prohibited substances or treated with irradiation may not be sold as organic. Importers are further reminded of their responsibility for ensuring that treated products comply with the USDA organic regulations.
For more information on these import requirements and for a link to additional resources, view the Notice to Trade.
