TheAgricultural MarketingService(AMS) is pleased to announce thedatesanddetails forthespring 2016 National OrganicStandards Board (NOSB) meeting.
April 2016 National Organic Standards Board Meeting
TheNationalOrganicStandardsBoard(NOSB), an advisory committeeoforganic industry and stakeholder representatives, wasestablishedbythe Organic Foods Production Act. TheNOSBrecommends whethersubstances should be allowed or prohibited inorganicproduction or handling, assists in developing standards for substancestobe used inorganic production, andadvises theSecretary of Agriculture onotheraspects oftheorganicregulations.
Twice a year, theNOSBmeets to listen to public comments, discussspecificitems pertaining toorganic agriculture, and vote onrecommendationsfor theNational OrganicProgram (NOP) toconsider. Thesemeetings are an important forumfor public comment,andsupporttransparency in the standards developmentprocess.
TheNOSB's nextmeeting will be held April25 - 27, 2016in Washington, DC. In addition to receiving public comment at the face-to-face meeting,theNOSB will listen to oral public commentsvia a webinar onApril 19, 2016. The NOSBwilladdress several petitionspertaining tochangesto theNational List of Allowed and ProhibitedSubstances, and begin its review of 2018sunsetsubstances. The agenda of topics, current proposals, and instructions about how to participate are available on the NOSB meeting webpage.
