AnnouncementDecember 13, 2012
Greetings!

The National Organic Program (NOP) is pleased to announce a new fact sheet describing the oversight, labeling, and trade of organic wine.

Organic Wine: Oversight, Labeling + Trade

Like all organic products, organic wine must meet all USDA organic requirements. Organic alcoholic beverages must also meet Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) regulations.

NOP's new wine fact sheet summarizes the requirements for wine:

  • Label approvals (by certifying agent and TTB).
  • Labeled as "organic."
  • Labeled as "made with organic grapes."
  • Imported by and exported from the United States.
