Your G.I.F.T. - Generously Investing for Tomorrow

Two weeks ago we heard from the Transition Team that our current ministerial pay scale is a barrier to hiring the additional 1.5 ministers that we need to staff our vibrant, busy church.   First Unitarian is one of the flagship churches of the denomination.  We are the 6th largest congregation in the country.   We are the only congregation that is growing in an area of declining population.  To read more,  click here; copies also available in our church lobby.

Kahn Building Appreciation Committee News

Where were you when our church was being planned, designed, constructed and dedicated a little over 50 years ago?  If you were a member and have news clippings or photographs of any of those events, please share them with the Kahn Building Appreciation Committee.  We will make copies and can return your originals or place your items in the History Room for safe keeping if you'd prefer.  If you know of others who might have documents or memorabilia of that time, please let us know who else we might contact. We are only seeking information about the building's beginnings for a video we are planning.  Drop off your materials in an envelope labeled Kahn Building Appreciation Committee in the Workroom, Bin K, or call Nancy Koch, 585-662-5537.  Be sure to include your name, phone number and address.

Practice Evolving Towards Love

So many of us are striving to go deeper into the concept of Listen, Open and Serve, and embody our mission through direct experience and practice.  Rev. Kaaren's recent sermons have encouraged us to lay down new neural tracks in our brains as we Evolve towards Love.  We have the perfect opportunity to join brothers and sisters in our city in the Season for Non-Violence. Click here to learn more.

Bookstore Manager Needed

Do you love books? Do you want to contribute to an important ministry at our church? Our Bookstore is looking for a manager and a volunteer coordinator for the upcoming 2014-2015 church year.  After four years, Amanda Kish and Emily Osgood are retiring from these positions and are looking for volunteers to take over their duties. The Bookstore Manager role involves selecting books to be sold during church services, ordering and pricing the books, and handling proceeds from sales.  The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for scheduling volunteers in the bookstore, recruiting new volunteers if necessary, and submitting occasional bookstore notices to the Weekly Reminder.  If you are interested in the Bookstore Manager position, please contact Amanda at 585-282-0644 or amandakish@yahoo.com. If you want to learn more about the Volunteer Coordinator role, get in touch with Emily Osgood at 585-223-8730 or dogberry4@frontiernet.net.  Training and support will be provided for these important volunteer positions.  Get involved today!

Organ Concert with Zachary Zwahlen

On Sunday, March 30 at 3:00pm, our organist, Zachary Zwahlen, will bring us a program of wide ranging, beautiful organ music.  This program honors Edward T. Schell's legacy bringing music (and more) to our church from 1978 to 2012.  It also honors the foresight, dedication and work of over 300 of our members who brought about the Great Organ Transplant of 1981.  It promises to be a delightful program with Zachary skillfully showing off the many sounds and colors of the organ. The program is free, open to the public, and will be about an hour long, followed by a reception honoring Ed Schell and Zachary. There will be a free will offering, and contributions to the Crescendo fund would be welcome.  Plan to come and bring along all your music-appreciating friends.
