Greetings Alumni and Friends!
Wow what an exciting spring we have had? Our Softball team made it to the National Tournament and played for the championship. In the end they were runner up to the national champion.  What a great season they had finishing 50-8 on the season. The team also picked up more awards than you can imagine, including Chris Robinson receiving Region 23 Coach of the Year honors.
As we speak, our baseball team is in Enid, OK playing in the NJCAA World Series. They have won two out of three so far. The games can be viewed on NJCAAtv.com. Log in to that website for a complete schedule.
JoAnna is hard at work getting ready to send out Alumni Association and Bobcat Club renewals. You should be receiving that within the next couple of months. With that in mind, please encourage everyone that you have contact with to join if they are not members already.
As always, we are here for you, our alumni and friends. Please do not hesitate to call us if we can be of assistance to you in any way. We are here to help you with anything from reconnecting with old friends and classmates to establishing scholarship funds for a worthy cause.

Student Government Officers-New & Graduating
Graduation
Nearly 800 JCJC students applied to graduate with more than 630 participating in two commencement ceremonies, May 13. JCJC history instructor, Wyatt Moulds retired several years ago, however he continues to teach Western Civilization classes at JCJC. He has also embarked on a project that has found himself in the spotlight.
Over the last several years, Moulds has been assisting with the historical research of a famous relative of his, Newt Knight, to create the feature-length film, "Free State of Jones," featuring Matthew McConaughey. For the first time in recent history, a faculty member was featured as the keynote speaker at graduation.
Moulds has been working with McConaughey and director, Gary Ross as the crew researched the Jasper/Jones County area for historical evidence, interviews and to get a sense of who this famous Civil War rebel was and how he is revered still today. The film is expected to be released nationwide, June 24, 2016.

Graduation In a Picture
Natalie Beth Seales of Hattiesburg earned the All-USA Community College Academic Team honors as one of 20 students nationally.  She was also recognized as a PTK Guistwhite Scholar and she is a New Century Scholar for earning the top score in the state PTK competition.

 Lyceum Scholars
For the first time at JCJC, three students were awarded the prestigious University of Mississippi Lyceum Scholarship.  The full-tuition scholarship was awarded to Ethan Davis (middle) of Laurel, Natalie Beth Seales (left middle) of Hattiesburg, and Cady Smith (middle right) of Raleigh. They were three of only 15 community college students to receive the full tuition Lyceum Scholarship.  University of Mississippi assistant director of admissions, Lauren Childers (left) and associate director of admissions and JCJC alumnus, Jody Lowe, (right) presented JCJC students the scholarships. Distinguished Administrator
JCJC graduate, Dean of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Charles Pickering  Honors Institute, Dr. Mark Taylor was selected as a Distinguished College Administrator by Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at its annual convention.
This award is given to college vice presidents, deans or d
irectors who have demonstrated a strong level of support for Phi Theta Kappa during their tenure. Taylor is one of 25 Distinguished College Administrators to receive this honor from nominations across the nation.
"I was completely surprised when I learned of this award, and I am truly honored to be selected.  It is a privilege to represent the college and the administration at the PTK annual convention," said Taylor.
Julie Atwood, one of the advisers for JCJC's Rho Sigma chapter of the academic international Honor Society, explained Taylor is involved in numerous aspects of PTK.  Without his support, she said, the chapter would not be able to thrive and be successful.
"We are greatly appreciative of his efforts with our Honors students and his continual support for scholarship recommendations and interviews.  Without his assistance, we would be hard pressed to identify our strongest candidates for internships, scholarships and other accolades," said Atwood.
Taylor provides opportunities for students to be exposed to leaders to help with personal leadership development through the Honors College. Many PTK students are a part of this advanced educational and leadership class at JCJC, which has a history of producing excellent and prepared student leaders. Atwood also sites his involvement in promoting the arts on campus and offering international travel as other ways he helps students understand and see a "bigger picture" of the world. Ultimately, Dr. Taylor helps to better equip students to compete globally.
