Summer Graduation
| More than 100 students became alumni last Friday at the conclusion of the 74th annual Summ er Commencement at JCJC. Speaker Pro Tempore of the Mississippi House of Representatives, Greg Snowden gave students a little history lesson and reminded them of the milestones that are important in successful peoples lives. Louisville's Willie Hickman is proud to join the ranks of being a Jones alumnus. He has worked w ith the Student Government Association and said he will miss Jones, which he calls his home. He will be transferring to USM and is majoring therapeutic recreation. Seminary's Brittney Saulters is unsure what her future holds but she has her General Studies Associate in Arts degree from Jones. GED Graduation
| The Wilson siblings, (pictured left to right) Hannah, Benjamin and Alicia were three of the 567 students eligible to participate in the recent GED Graduati on Ceremony. Benjamin was one of eight students with the highest score and earned a JCJC scholarship. He was also the top overall scorer earning an additional Foundation Scholarship. He did so well, his instructor, Caleb Smith encouraged him to enroll at Jones for the Spring 2014 semester. He is currently a student in the commercial residential maintenance program with plans to enroll in the welding program. Garretson Joins Jones
| Welcome HOME!! Charlie Garretson! The 1981 JCJC alumnus and Greene County native is closing the books on his career in banking to become the new Vice President of Advancement and the Executive Director of the JCJC Foundation. Charlie has served as the President of Community Bank, Jones County Division in Laurel for the last six years. However he's been with Community Bank for the past 16 years total and the banking industry for the past 25 years in all. The current JCJC President of the Alumni Association has been working professionally and personally with JCJC for most of his life. Alumni Accomplishment-Dr. John Forde

Congratulations!!! to JCJC alumnus and Honor Alumnus, John E. Forde, Ph.D., APR, Fellow PRSA. He was recently inducted into the Southern Public Relations Hall of Fame. As the Associate Professor and Head Department of Communication, Dr. Forde has inspired thousands of students during his career as a professor of communications at Mississippi State University. He has received numerous honors and awards attesting his involvement in public relations as a practitioner, teacher, advisor, colleague, and mentor, including: - Public Relations Association of Mississippi Educator of the Year, 2011
- Public Relations Society of America College of Fellows, 2010
- University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communication and Journalism Hall of Fame, 2009
- Southern Public Relations Federation Professional Achievement Award, 1999
- Southern Public Relations Federation Senior Practitioner, 1993
- Public Relations Association of Mississippi State Practitioner of the Year, 1992
Dr. Forde has dedicated many years of service to the Southern Public Relations Federation Board of Directors and the boards of affiliated local and state organizations, including serving as SPRF president in 1997. He was selected by the SPRF Board to represent the organization on the Universal Accreditation Board, a diverse group of educators, military public affairs personnel and public relations professionals who oversee the Accreditation in Public Relations program, and served as co-chair of the UAB in 2011 while representing SPRF. He is currently serving on the UAB as a representative of the Public Relations Society of America. He holds an associate's degree from Jones County Junior College, a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University and both a master's degree and doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Alumni Accomplishment-Dr. Michael Hamilton
| Congratulations!!! to Michael Hamilton for receiving a naval award for his innovative contributions to human-device interaction principles for the advancing principles for the warfighter. The JCJC and MSU graduate earned the Dr. Charles J. Cohen Award of Excellence for Science and Technology on a project. Dr. Hamilton has been working for the last three years in the Human Systems Integration Branch of the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Dahlgren, Virginia, which is a research and development center that serves as a specialty site for weapon system integration. The Sylvarena native's contributions as an industrial and systems engineer are "fundamentally reshaping the way our Navy will fight and defend our country in the future," according to the Center's website. Dr. Hamilton is quoted as saying in a news release, "Dr. Cohen made a lifelong pursuit out of developing the technical capabilities of the Navy to ensure that our sailors have the best technical means to engage, and win, in combat. I am encouraged in the same way as (Dr. Cohen) to ensure that our Navy remains a leader both technologically and strategically in our military operations." The award is granted to an individual whose work has had a fundamental impact on science or technology and a measurable impact on the capability of the Navy or Department of Defense. Hamilton's work was cited for his research in three dimensional, free-form gestural interactions that "have helped pave the way for delivering new and more effective interaction modalities to the warfighter, with the potential to greatly increase the combat readiness of current and future naval warfare systems....Dr. Hamilton's research is a key enabler in the mission of NSWC Dahlgren-innovation of the future Fleet," according to the news release.

Congratulations!!! to JCJC alumna and Laurel resident, Erin Napier. She was among the Mississippi Main Street Association's award recipients, winning the Award for Excellence, Spirit of Main Street. Napier's design work can be seen everywhere from the stunning "Welcome to Historic Downtown Laurel" mural on Central Avenue to this year's beautiful Farmer's Market flyer. "Erin and her husband Ben embody the spirit of our beautiful city and the mission of Laurel Main Street," said Judi Holifield, executive director of Laurel Man Street.

Alumni Accomplishment-Robin Robinson
| Congratulations!!! to JCJC alumna, Robin Robinson as the newly elected 2016-17 chairwoman of the Mississippi Economic Council. She is currently serving as the Treasurer of the MEC. The Director of Organization Development and Corporate Communications at Sanderson Farms, Inc., she began her career at Sanderson Farms in 1978 at the Laurel processing plant in the role as cost accountant after graduating from USM. She was promoted to chief accountant in 1981 and in 1986 she was promoted to chief internal auditor with responsibilities for auditing all aspects of the organization. Robinson served as manager of organization development from 1995-97, manager of human resources from 1998-1999 and in 2000 she was named to her current position. Robinson serves on the Sanderson Farms Executive Committee, is the chairwoman of the Board of Directors for the JCJC Foundation and for the Board for the American Lung Association Plains-Gulf Region. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Dixie Electric Power Association and the MS Center for Obesity Research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Athletes & Academic Achievements
|
 The 2013-14 season will go down in the record books as being the "Year of Champions" or the "Year of the Bobcat." Every sport at JCJC enjoyed being in the state and national spotlight this year and now the academic honors are flowing in. Two JCJC teams and 16 student-athletes are receiving recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom.  The JCJC women's tennis and softball teams have been named as 2013-14 NJCAA All-Academics teams. Teams must have at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) to be considered. The Lady Bobcat tennis team had a 3.35 GPA, while the softball team had a 3.17 GPA. Both teams were also MACJC state championships on the field of play. Two JCJC student-athletes received the NJCAA Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence for a having a 4.0 GPA. Those players are softball player Makenzie Hawkins of Nettleton and tennis player Elizabeth Wright of Gautier. Two more Bobcat student-athletes were recognized for NJCAA Superior Academic Achievement for having a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Those players are softball player CC Lawn of Meridian with a 3.91 GPA and women's soccer player Laurel Riebock of Florence also with a 3.91 GPA. Five MAC Coaches of the Year

amed MAC Coaches of the Year in their respective sports.
Deasley guided JCJC to a 17-2 record, the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament championship and a berth in the NJCAA District H playoffs. She was also named the MACJC/Region 23 Coach of the Year. JCJC finished ranked No. 12 in the final NJCAA Division I soccer poll.
Robinson led the Lady Bobcats to their third straight state championship and an MACJC South Division title. JCJC ended the year with a 52-6 record and was the NJCAA Division II and Region 23 runnerup. The Lady Bobcats were ranked No. 2 in the final NJCAA Division II poll. Robinson was also named the MACJC Coach of the Year.
Sumrall guided the Lady Bobcats to a 19-8 mark, an MACJC South Division tri-championship and the MACJC state championship. She was named MAC and MACJC Co-Coach of the Year, along with Jocelyn McGilberry of Meridian Community College.
Ostrander led the Bobcats to a 46-11 record, an MACJC championship and a runnerup finish in Region 23. JCJC was ranked No. 6 in the final NJCAA Division II poll.
Perkins led JCJC to a 9-2 record, a No. 8 ranking in the final NJCAA poll, an MACJC South Division championship and a runner-up MACJC finish.

FCA 3D Archery
| The Jones County Fellowship of Christian Athletes is inviting young and the young at heart to participate in the 3rd Annual FCA 3D Archery Tournament on Satu rday, September 20, at 8 a.m. at Rocka Farms on Hwy 29 South of Ellisville. The cost for this fundraising event is $50 per shooter with youth and adult divisions and lunch will be provided.
