Here's what's happening at Jones!   

The Lions Band practices on campus for international competition in Toronto, Canada,
 and a free concert for the public will be Wednesday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the M.P. Bush Auditorium at JCJC
   
They marched every morning and evening despite the weather



   

Alumni Accomplishment-Dr. Matt Dillon
  Congratulations!!!  to JCJC graduate, Dr. Matthew L. Dillon on his appointment as the Petal School District's new superintendent. He has taught in elementary and junior high schools, and coached on the high school level. He has served as principal at both the junior high and high school levels and was most recently the assistant superintendent of the Tupelo Public School District, which serves over 7,100 students in grades Pre K-12.
  Dr. Dillon is a graduate of Columbia High School and JCJC.  He received his Bachelor's Degree from The University of Southern Mississippi in elementary education with a minor in biology. He received his Master's degree and Doctoral degree from The University of Mississippi in educational leadership (K-12).
  He and his wife, Mary Ann have three children: daughters Anna Kate and Peyton, and son, Nate.
  Dr. Dillon succeeds the retiring Petal superintendent Dr. John Buchanan as the sixth superintendent of the district.  Buchanan served for nearly 30 years.
Alumni Accomplishment-Dr. Jennifer Lowery
    Congratulations!!!  are in order for Dr. Jennifer Lowery, a JCJC graduate and the wife of JCJC English instructor, Dr. David Lowery.  The 1993 JCJC graduate not only earned her Ph.D in Higher Education Administration but she was also one of three students receiving a doctoral degree at the commencement ceremony, which was the first time William Carey University awarded doctoral degrees.   

  Jennifer has taught in Collins for one year and she has been teaching in the Jones County School District for 18 years.  For the past two years she has been the 9th and 10th grade principal at Northeast Jones High School.  Previously, Dr. Lowery has taught high school biology, Advanced Placement History and elementary gifted classes.   

  In addition to her doctoral degree, Jennifer has earned her A.A. from JCJC, her B.S. degree in biology from USM, and from William Carey, she earned her Masters in Education degree in gifted education and her Education Specialists degree in higher education.  Ironically, former JCJC president, Dr. Terrell Tisdale was part of her dissertation committee.  

  Dr.'s  David and Jennifer Lowery have two sons and she is the daughter of Joe Robert and Diane Hancock of Laurel.

Alumni Accomplishment-Amie McQueen
  Amie McQueen The Jones County School District named JCJC graduate and former Alumni Coordinator, Aime McQueen as Jones Elementary School District's top parent.
 As the "Parent of Year from South Jones Elementary," she represented the Jones County School District in the Mississippi Parent of the Year contest. 
  McQueen graduated from South Jones High School in 1991 and earned an Associate in Science degree in microcomputers from Jones County Junior College in the spring of 1993. She was employed at Jones County Junior College for 19 years where she held many positions including workforce development, payroll director, facilities director and alumni coordinator.
   The Ellisville resident has participated in the Leadership Jones County Class of 2010 and served as a board member from 2011-2013. She has also given her time and dedication as a member of the Inter Alumni Association, Council for Resource Development, National Council for Resource Development, South Jones Diamond Club, Laurel Soccer League and Jones County School District Parent Advisory Committee.  She was the South Jones Elementary PTO yearbook liaison and she currently serves as PTO President.  As PTO president, the organization raised funds for the purchase of a curtain for the stage in the gymnasium.
  She is the wife of Shannon McQueen, and they have four children: Brett, Blane, Tyler and Connor.  Congratulations!!!
Alumni Accomplishment-Clint Smith
  Congratulations!!!  to another Jones County Junior College graduate, Clint Smith, who has been selected to represent the Jones County School District as the 2014 nominee for Mississippi Teacher of the Year.  Smith has served as a teacher at East Jones Elementary for two years.   He earned his Associate of Arts degree at Jones County Junior College and his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at The University of Southern Mississippi.  Smith is currently the chairman of the mathematics department and the Professional Learning Community at East Jones Elementary School.  He has also served as a mentor teacher for students involved in the future teacher program at the Jones County Career and Technical Center.  
   The Laurel resident has been coaching various youth sports since 1998.  He is a very active member at Freedom Baptist Church, and he enjoys caring for elderly people in his community.  Smith also tutors math students on a daily basis.  He feels that students deserve one-on-one time to help them succeed and he is convinced that learning can and should be enjoyable.
   Clint and his wife, Stephanie have two children, Austin Chase and Savannah Brooke.
Alumni Accomplishment-Lisa Dearman
   Congratulations!!!  to Lisa Dearman on her promotion at Great Southern National Bank.  Quitman President, Frank Burt announced Dearman has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. 
  The Quitman native is a Quitman High School and JCJC graduate.  She has worked for 32 years at Great Southern National Bank which was formerly know as the Bank of Quitman. Dearman also serves as Branch Security Officer. 

She is a member of the Clarke County Chamber of Commerce and supports the American Cancer Society through Great Southern National Bank's Relay for Life team.  Dearman and her husband, Kenneth, have one daughter, Kristen.

Alumni Accomplishment-Jennifer Parrish
  Congratulations!!!  to Jennifer Parrish who has recently been promoted to Training Manager at Sanderson Farms, Inc. Previously, the JCJC graduate was a Training Coordinator for the poultry giant. 
  In her new position, she will now be responsible for designing curriculum, as well as implementing and facilitating training programs intended to increase management and employee effectiveness. She will also be responsible for identifying, recruiting and developing Beginning Trainees to become successful members of Sanderson Farms' management team.

   Parrish is an honors graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Consumer Behavior with an emphasis in Hospitality Management. She also earned an associate's degree in liberal arts from Jones County Junior College where she was also a member of Jones OnStage show choir. Parrish joined Sanderson Farms as a Training Coordinator in March 2013, and has, until her recent promotion, been diligently serving the company in that capacity.

  While serving as Training Coordinator, Parrish was responsible for scheduling, communicating and delivering employee training in the areas of leadership, communication and team-building skills. In addition to these training needs, she also coordinated training for hourly and salaried employees concerning wage and salary administration, pre-employment training, safety and health, wellness, as well as technical and human resource training.

  Prior to joining Sanderson Farms, the Laurel resident was the Director of Sales and Marketing for Shell Landing Golf Club in Gautier, Mississippi, as well as the Private Events Coordinator for Hattiesburg Country Club.

  In addition to her professional accomplishments, Parrish has had various roles in productions at the Laurel Little Theatre and the Hattiesburg Civic Opera House and she was a member of the Mississippi Show Stoppers and the Bob Westbrook Singers. 

Alumni Accomplishment-Stan Pickering
   Congratulations!!!  to 2001 JCJC graduate, Stan Pickering of Laurel. Lee H.

Fedric, chief executive officer of Citizens Bank in Columbia, announced that  Pickering has joined the bank as vice president and president of the Seminary and Jones County Division.  The West Jones High School graduate is an experienced lender with 11 years of banking experience.

  He graduated with a bachelor of science in business administration from Mississippi College. In addition, he is a graduate of Jones County Junior College with an associate in arts in business administration and a graduate of the Mississippi School of  Banking at the University of Mississippi.     

  Pickering is a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Laurel, founding co-chairman of Jones County Young Professionals, a graduate and past board member of Leadership Jones County, and a member and past chairman of Jones County Ducks Unlimited.

  He and his wife, Brittney, have two children, Anderson and Meredith. They are members of First Baptist Church of Laurel where he serves as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

JCJC Students Intern at GE Aviation
   JCJC freshman, Connor Dolbear of Richton, and sophomores, Ike Armour of Laurel, Elizabeth Wright of Gautier and Blake Holifield of Laurel will be spending their summer getting hands on experience at GE Aviation in Ellisville.  The students will be getting paid for their work during the 12-week internship, under the supervision of GE mentors and Human Resource Manager, Rebecca Bechtold (pictured in the middle).  To read more about this new internship program, click on the link: JCJC students intern at GE Aviation
Ratliff signs with Seattle Mariners
   JCJC freshman from Purvis, Lane Ratliff is
headed to the West Coast to play professional baseball.  The left-hander was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the sixth round of the MLB Draft. He is currently in Peoria, Arizona at the Mariner's player development facility. 
   Ratliff has been assigned to the Rookie League team in the Appalachian League, the Pulaski Virginia Mariners.  The team began its season June 19, against the Burlington North Carolina Royals. 
   The former Bobcat helped the 2014 team to a 46-11 record, an MACJC championship, and a No. 6 ranking in the final NJCAA Division II poll.  He had 89 strikeouts in just 64 1/3 innings, which ranked third in NJCAA Division II with 12.45 strikeouts per game.  He was sixth in overall strikeouts. Ratliff posted an 8-3 record with a 3.08 earned run average this year for the 46-11 and MACJC champion Bobcats. He allowed just 48 hits and issued 22 walks. *Tim Sherman of Laurel and Holly Cooley of Waynesboro were married on May 31.  Cooley is a JCJC graduate. 

*Blake Williamson of Sumrall and Katie McNair of Mt. Olive were married June 7.  McNair is a 2011 JCJC graduate.

*Robert Hicks of Quitman and Ashley Busby of Waynesboro were married June 14.  Hicks is a 2004 JCJC graduate.
