Sarah Palin campaigns for JCJC alumnus, Chris McDaniel at Jones.
About 1300 supporters attended the Ellisville natives' rally before the Republican Primary for the U.S. Senate seat, currently held by Thad Cochran. McDaniel reminisced about the many times he wandered around this auditorium as a child when his parents both worked at Jones.

Twelve Jones County Junior College employees recently announced their retirement from the institution and took part in the college's annual Retirement Tea. When combined, these employees provided nearly 300 years of service to JCJC. Pictured left to right in the first row are: Jim Walley, Casey Mercier, Sidney Tally, John Carter and Bobby Hinton. More than 550 Students Graduate
| JCJC President, Dr. Jesse Smith recognized the irony of having of th e 1960 Olympic
gold medal winner Ralph Boston to be the graduation speaker for a class that has been deemed, "Extraordinary." Athletically and academically, the class of 2014 will go down in history with an incredible number of national accolades. JCJC student, Zack Warren was the first Jones student to be honored by PTK as an All-USA Team member and a New Century Scholar. The JCJC men's basketball team won the national championship and was the first Mississippi college to do so. Boston, a Laurel native, is still honored today for his remarkable achievements during his college years. He was the first athlete to jump more than 27 feet, setting a new

world record in long jump, while also beating Jesse Owens' record from 25 years earlier. Boston earned a silver medal at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo and the bronze medal at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, and he was named, "The World Athlete of the Year" in 1960. Gold Key Honors were voted on by sophomore students at the annual sophomore breakfast. These students have a 4.0 GPA and have excelled in the awarded area during their two years at JCJC. Nineteen students were eligible for the Academic Gold Key Honor based solely on their GPA before finals. medallions and scholarships in recognition of being named Tullos Scholars. These students, Naomi Clark, Harlan Mapp, Ryan Shoemake, Meaghan Simmons and Bridgette Wagner have distinguished themselves through their scholarship and service to others, including their academic achievements, involvement in college activities, community service and leadership positions, according to Vice President of Instructional Affairs, Dr. Laverne Ulmer.

Jones County Junior College's Rho Sigma chapter officers of the academic international Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa earned an international award last month: Top 30 Distinguished Chapter Officer Team. This falls on the heels of several national, regional and state awards bestowed on the officers and individuals of the JCJC chapter of PTK. CPRAM Awards
|
The JCJC Marketing Department came home with another record of 14 awards from the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi conference. The team won three first place honors, five second place awards and six third place accolades. Media and Public Relations Director, Teresa McCreery swept the News Story category. VP of Marketing, Finee' Ruffin and graphic designer, Gabe Bozeman won first place honors for their work on the Homecoming Postcard. The college's Annual President's Report also earned first place, with every member of the team working on that project. JCJC Hosts Softball MAC-All Star Games
|
JCJC will serve as host for the the annual Mississippi Association of Coaches Softball All-Star Games for a third year in a row. The event will be held Saturday, June 7, at Community Bank Park on the campus of Jones. Four games will be played on Saturday between All-Stars representing the North and the South from the state.
The first 1A/2A/3A All-Star Game begins at 10 a.m., followed by the first 4A/5A/6A All-Star Game. At approximately 1:30 p.m., All-Stars from all four teams will be introduced. The second 1A/2A/3A All-Star Game will then take place, followed by the second 4A/5A/6A All-Star Game. Players are scheduled to report to JCJC on Thursday afternoon with practices being held on Friday. For a list of the MAC Softball All-Stars, go to www.mscoaches.com.

Dew Named Softball Player of the Year
| Quitman's Tori Dew has racked up honors all season and she was the first to receive a new honor awarded this year: the NJCAA's "Player of the Year." this is the first year the NJCAA has given such accolades in softball. Dew was also named a first-team NJCAA Division II All-American, to the All-NJCAA Division II All-Tournament Team and All-Region 23. The Lady Bobcat Softball team earned its third straight State Championship, posted a 52-6 record (a single season school record for wins in a season), finished as runner-ups in the NJCAA Division II Natio nal Tournament and were ranked No. 2 in the final poll of the season behind National Champions, LSU-Eunice. "Pitcher of the Year" went to Region 23 rival and National Champ, Raven Cole of LSU-Eunice. JCJC Head Coach, Chris Robinson, who just completed his fifth year, was named MACJC "Coach of the Year." He owns a 191-75 overall record at Jones, including a remarkable 138-27 mark over the past three years. JCJC Softball National Runner-ups
|
The JCJC Lady Bobcat Softball team earned its third straight state championship and it's third straight shot at a national title. However, LSU-Eunice managed to beat the Lady Bobcat team in a rain shortened Region 23 play off game for the title, hosted at Jones.
In the national tournament, the Ladies managed to be the only team unbeaten until the last game, beating the Bengals of LSU-Eunice 9-7. However, the top ranked team held off the 2nd ranked Jones Bobcats in the play-offs for the national title scoring eight runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 6-0 deficit and defeat the Lady Bobcats 8-6 in the title game of the NJCAA Division II National Softball Tournament at Traceway Park. It was LSU-Eunice's third victory of the day.

Baseball Ends Season Early
|
It has been an amazing seasons for the top ranked JCJC Baseball Team. For the fourth time in five years, the Jones County Junior College Bobcat Baseball team claimed the MACJC South Division championship. Then the 43-9 Bobcats captured the MACJC state championship by winning three games in the tournament at Northeast Mississippi. The Bobcats went on to host the first ever, Baseball Regional Tournament at Jones, however they came up short against Hinds CC.
The victory sent the Eagles, 35-19, to the NJCAA Division II World Series May 24-31 in Enid, Oklahoma. The Bobcats ended the year at 46-11, which matches the school record for victories in a single season, which was set in 2011.
Bobcat team members were bestowed with numerous post-seasons honors including, pitcher Westin Stringer, catcher Tyler Graves and centerfielder Chris Morgan have been named All-Region 23. Stringer, Graves, Morgan, second baseman Trent Giambrone, pitcher/designated hitter Chase Hensley and pitcher Lane Ratliff have been named first-team All-MACJC. Rightfielder Alex Shermer, first baseman Jordan Stark, third baseman Josh Pankratz and relief pitcher Cole Barlow have been named second-team All-MACJC. And, to top it off, sixth-year head coach Christian Ostrander has been named the MACJC Coach of the Year, while 10 players have received Region 23 and MACJC postseason recognition.

Dickson Plays in National Golf Tournament
|
Mize's Patrick Dickson tied for 63rd place in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Golf Tournament. The sophomore joined over 140 of the nation's best junior college golfers from a total of 43 teams, from across the United States to play at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana for the NJCAA Men's Golf Championship.
