National Championship Basketball Team
Lots of Bobcats cheered the team on from Mississippi and welcomed them home

They made history and were considered the

The JCJC Bobcat Basketball Team has been receiving a lot of recognition and turning heads with their amazing win against some perennial powerhouses in the Division 1 NJCAA National Championship Tournament. Gov. Phil Bryant and local legislators took time to recognize the team's accomplishments on the House floor. They posed with the national champion Jones County Junior College basketball team at the State Capitol and praised them for their perseverance. The team will also be honored during the April 1, baseball game when Secretary of State, Delbert Hoseman will honor both teams during pre-game ceremonies.

Garden Symposium
|
Leave your gardening tools at home and attend the JCJC Gardening Symposium on Thursday, April 17, from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., at the Whitehead Advanced Technology Center.
Learn gardening tips, see some new plants, and listen to the "freshest" speakers in the Horticulture world. Lunch is included in the $50 conference fee. Gary Bachman from the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center will be the Opening speaker and Keynote speaker, Tracy Proctor will help you, "Pull it out of a Hat." Participants will also choose two other sessions before lunch is served, prepared by JCJC Culinary Arts students.
Plants and flowers will be on sale to benefit JCJC students. All proceeds from the Symposium will go to the JCJC Horticulture Scholarship Fund.

Sean Payton Success | With more than 300 people in attendance, the Football Foundation Fundraising event with Sean Payton was a success. He made Mississippians feel like they are an important part of the team and shared some humorous stories with the crowd before heading back to New Orleans.   One story that was of special interest to retired JCJC teacher, Marjann Ball was shared about the meeting and relationship between Payton and Marjann's daughter Ariel Ball and her "Wish". Alumni Golf Tournament-Postponed

It's only happened once before, but the 15th annual Alumni Association Golf Tournament was postponed due to rain. It has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, at Dixie Golf Club in Laurel.
The day will begin with pancakes and sausage at 7 a.m. during registeration. Tournament instructions and cart assignments begin at 8:15 a.m. with an 8:45 a.m. shot-gun start. Enjoy prizes on the course and plenty of food and fellowship.

It's a great day to be a Bobcat! Athletic and academic honors are flowing fast and furious!
Baseball and softball teams have set their sites on getting another state championship and would love to add National and Regional champs to their lists of honors.
The 2nd ranked Lady Bobcats are now 29-1 overall and 15-1 in the MACJC South Division. The Lady Bobcats travel to Mississippi Gulf Coast for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1. The Lady Bobcats split with East Central Community College Sunday afternoon. ECCC took the opener 8-6, as JCJC belted six solo home runs. In game two, the Lady Bobcats got a three-run home run from Tori Dew and a two-run shot from Makenzie Hawkins and posted a 9-5 decision.

The #1 nationally ranked Baseball team is 26-4 overall and 7-3 in the MACJC South Division, and will host Copiah-Lincoln in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1. The games will air on www.jcjc.tv. On Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats were one out away from being swept in a doubleheader at MGCCC but Chase Hensley took care of that with one swing of the bat. Hensley, a freshman from Humboldt, Tenn., belted a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to left the Bobcats to a dramatic, 4-3 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Cole Barlow then struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to record his sixth save. MGCCC won game one, 10-5.
JCJC's Tennis teams continue to win matches. The Lady Bobcat tennis team improved to 7-1 on the season with a 6-3 victory over Itawamba Community College over the weekend. The ICC men's team posted a 7-2 decision over JCJC. The Bobcat men's team is now 5-3. They will host Hinds at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1.

JCJC's Bobcat Math League recently received the University/College Partnership Award at the 12th Annual Governor's Awards for Outstanding School-Community Partnerships. Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Rho Sigma chapter at JCJC, hosted the annual Mississippi-Louisiana Regional Conference with 250 students from 27 chapters. Regional president and JCJC sophomore, Lewis Bateman of Laurel presided over the first-ever conference held at Jones. JCJC Dean of Students, Dr. Samuel Jones offered inspiring words at a Friday banquet. Saturday, stude nts learned if their work paid off with a regional award. JCJC alumna and PTK Associate Director of Sr. College Relations, Christin Grissom (left) offered scholarship advice to students. PTK Regional Coordinator, and JCJC alumna, Dr. Amy Wolgamott (right), coordinated the conference from the Jackson, International Office. Honors bestowed upon the JCJC chapter included the JCJC officers being cho sen as "Distinguished Officers" and the chapter received the Top 10 College Project Award with the creation of the service organization, Officium. Individually, Hannah Pruitt of Ellisville and Director of Project Submissions for the chapter (pictured left with Gwen Magee), was selected by her peers to receive the "Order of the Golden Key" for being an exceptional officer and student. Zack Warren of Ellisville and Director of the College Project and Information Technology, earned the "Best Website" award. Pruitt earned HEADWAE honors and Warren also earned the All-Mississippi Academic First Team honors and was the top student, earning New Century Scholar honors.

Skills USA Winners
|
Eighteen members of the Jones County Junior College Skills USA organization placed first, second or third at the state competition held in Jackson in February.
Members of the group who placed first will compete in the national competition to be held in June in Kansas.
The State competition was the culmination of lots of practice and team work to prepare students for showcasing their skills and knowledge in various programs within Career and Technical Education.

SECOND PLACE honors goes to: Motorcycle Service, automotive major Terrence Triplett of Winston County; Technical Drafting, Michael Stokes of Jones County; Architectural Drafting, Seth Lott of Lamar County; Cosmetology, Taylor Lacina of Lamar County; Esthetics, cosmetology major Haley O'Neal of Forrest County; Job Demo A, culinary arts major Mary McCoy of Greene County; Culinary Arts, culinary arts major Amanda Dale from Lamar County; Job Demo Open, culinary arts major Diamante Venson of Lamar County; Chapter Display Team, culinary arts majors Steven Womack of Jefferson Davis County and Ariana Harrison of Pike County.
THIRD PLACE honors were awarded to: Automotive Technology, automotive technology major Andre Boykin of Perry County; Power Equipment, automotive technology major Williams Wales of Harrison County; Related Technical Math, drafting major Joe Daley of Jefferson Davis County; Restaurant Service (Front of the House), culinary arts major Alainna Cowart of Perry County.

Sophomore Recitals
|
The Jones County Junior College sophomore music students invite the public to hear them perform. The final performances of eight sophomore music students will be held on three n ights in April. Scheduled to perform on Thursday, April 3, at 7 p.m. in the Foote chapel will be Pensacola, Florida's, Sam Cruz on euphonium. Joining Cruz in concert will be guitarist, George Hensarling of Petal and pianist Dani el Coats of Taylorsville. The Tuesday, April 8, concert will feature, vocalist, Hillary Smith of Lucedale. Petal's James Mahalak will perform on his alto saxophone. Final performances for Heidelberg's Carley Green on clarinet and vocalists, Daniel Coats of Taylorsville and Demi Crosby of Laurel, will be held on Monday, April 14, at 7 p.m. For more information about the JCJC music program or the sophomore recitals call the Fine Arts department at 601-477-4094.

Spring Recital Series
| The annual Spring Recital Series is in its second week at JCJC. Guest musicians perform in the Foote Chapel at JCJC, on Fridays at 12:35 p.m. for a 30 minute concert. The Bergsma Trio performs on Friday, April 4, at 12:30 p.m. in the Foote Chapel, "The Voice of Coelacanth" along with trios by Duvernoy and Brahms.
