Bobcat Club Tailgating
|
The JCJC Bobcat welcomed back some Alumni members of the Bobcat Club during the annual "Cat Fight" basketball game with PRCC. Tailgating and reminiscing seem to take over the night for Linda and Barry Wedgeworth (pictured on the left), Robert and Jennie Landrum (pictured in the middle), and Lou Alice and Robert Sorey (pictured on the right). These former football players and their wives attended Jones in the mid 60's.
By the way, students dubbed the evening "Dunk" Dynasty night. Camo clothing and beards were adorned by many attending the Cat Fight. Both JCJC teams beat the Wildcats handily.

Adj. General tells JCJC students to "Dream Big"
| Mississippi's Adjutant General, Major General Augustus Collins gave JCJC students a lot to consider as they forge ahead in their careers. He used the annual Black History Celebrations' theme, "Moving Forward, One Step at a Time" to help illustrate the need for change, remembering the past and learning from our history to be successful in our futures. He challenged students to dream, respect each other, put effort into being successful, and staying on track requires persistence . To read the entire story click on the link: Dreaming Big

Basketball Update

For the first time in recent history, both basketball teams secured the top spot in the MACJC Tournament at Itawamba Community College last week. The Lady Bobcats were i n a three-way tie for the MACJC South Division title with Pearl River and Meridian, as all teams finished with a 10-4 record. Head-to-head competition is the first tiebreaker and each team split with each other. Point-spread between the teams determined head coach, Sandra Sumrall's Lady Bobcats came out on top, followed by Meridian second and then Pearl River. Southwest and Co-Lin each finished 9-5, but the Lady Bears earned the No. 4 seed based on the point-spread tiebreaker. The JCJC women were 16-7 going into the South Division Championships as the top seed team.
The ladies took the State Title and gold basketball trophy home in a close match against Southwest, 75-73.
If the JCJC women win their first two games of the Region 23 Tourney, they will advance to nationals, regardless of how they fare in the region championship game. To read Shawn Wansley's story, click on the link: State Champion Lady Bobcats
The 19th ranked Bobcat team lost the contest in the second round with East Mississippi, 75-69. The men's team were 19-4 and 11-3 in the division, tying them with Mississippi Gulf Coast for the top spot. However, JCJC claimed the tiebreaker by virtue of sweeping third place Pearl River. It is JCJC's first division title since 2009 when they last won the state championship. JCJC men must win regional (3 games) to make it to nationals. Both national tournaments will be in Kansas March 17-22. To read the details on the men's journey, click on the link: JCJC Bobcat results.
All games involving JCJC will be webcast on www.jcjc.tv.

It's a great day to be a Bobcat! Each sport is heading into the "meat" of their seasons and nothing but "W's" are coming up!
Both the baseball and softball teams are starting out with winn ing records.
Last weekend, the 15th ranked ladies headed into South Division play with a 13-0 record and came out with two division wins against ECCC.
Some of the success can be credited to Quitman freshman first baseman Tori Dew who was 10 of 16 with three home runs and 15 RBI's as the Lady Bobcats went 6-0 during the week. This was the second time Dew has been named the NJCAA Division II Softball Player of the Week. Dew, who was also named the national Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 3-9, had another tremendous week for the 15th-ranked Lady Bobcats.
The 7th-ranked Bobcats faced Baton Rouge CC over the weekend and also came out with two wins. The Bobcats are 14-0 and face 16th ranked Northwest CC Wednesday. JCJC's next home games will be a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday vs. Illinois Central.
The Tennis teams have also begun the season with a winning pace, improving their records to 2-0 with a pair of 9-0 victories over Holmes Community College last Thursday afternoon. The Bobcats return to their home net on Tuesday when they host Meridian at 2 p.m.

Remember When...
in 1977 when the new year came in a blazing? The old girls dorm burned to the ground three hours into
1977. The building was constructed in 1910. Outdated electrical wiring caused the fire which forced the move of 84 ladies to a vacant boy's dorm.
