Update on Emily
|
The Ishee/Harrison family are reporting little Emily Ishee is doing well with the transplant of her new liver. She is still on the ventilator and the family hopes they will only have one more day before it can be removed (July 29) so they can hold and play with Emily. Every day her numbers are getting better and better. Sarah said via Facebook. "We are so thankful. Once she is off the vent, they will move us to critical care. We should only be in the hospital for one to two more weeks. Then we will be at the apartment for at least a month. We have to stay close because of regular lab work for the first several months. Once it gets to lab work once a week, we will be able to come home! Thank you again for all your prayers and kind words. Love all of you!" JCJC alumni, Sarah Harrison Ishee who is the JCJC Assistant Registrar and a history teacher, and Josh Ishee who teaches JCJC's Commercial & Residential Maintenance are now more hopefull their 10 month-old girl Emily's condition, Billary Atresia will be resolved with the new liver at UAB hospital in Birmingham. Emily is the granddaughter of JCJC alumnus and retired Athletic Director,George Harrison.

Alumni Accomplishment-David McRaney

Congratul ations!!!
to 2004 JCJC alumnus David McRaney on the release of his second book, "You are Now Less Dumb."
The former journalist and current Director of Digital Media for WDAM-TV said he credits a lot of the ideas for his first book to retired JCJC psychology instructor, Jean Edwards. Another JCJC instructor and Social Science chair, Dr. Ron Bishop is McRaney's source of inspiration for his current literary accomplishment. McRaney said Dr. Bishop was great at "Brain Explosions," in other words getting students to think beyond their world and knowledge. He said Bishop liked exposing students to new things and thoughts and it inspired the young author. JCJC Science instructor Kevin Lyon has also been included in McRaney's popular blog's discussing spontaneous generation, the basis for his books, which discusses the idea, or early beliefs that certain animals like fleas could arise from inanimate matter such as dust. Here's a link to McRaney's podcast with Kevin Lyon (NOTE: the interview begins 11 minutes into the podcast): Common Sense with Kevin Lyon.
