"Liverpalooza"
|
Emily Ishee is sending a big kiss to the JCJC family and friends who came out to support her parents, JCJC alumni, Sarah Harrison Ishee who is the JCJC Assistant Registrar and a history teacher, and Josh Ishee who teaches JCJC's Commercial & Residential Maintenance. The 10 month-old girl has Billary Atresia and is waiting to receive a liver transplant at UAB hospital in Birmingham. Emily is the granddaughter of JCJC alumnus and retired Athletic Director,George Harrison. The recent "Liverpalooza" fundraiser provided numerous opportunities for the community to help raise funds including a silent auction and 5K run. Organizers are astonished at the whooping $20,000 in donations to help support the family as they wait for a liver. Thanks to everyone who donated items and supported the Ishees!!!! Community Bank has also set up a fund for the family if you still wish to support them.

Alumni Accomplishment-Stephanie Sanford
|
Congratulations!!! to JCJC's assistant pharmacy technology instructor and alumna, Stephanie Sanford who was presented the Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award by Peter Stokes, the Executive Director of the Mississippi Pharmacists Association.
This award recognizes a pharmacy technician who exhibits professional characteristics inherent of a model pharmacy technician, demonstrates professional competency, and is actively working to help establish the role of the technician in pharmacy services. Factors considered for this award were service to Jones County Junior College which included her involvement in committees and technician leadership and significant contributions to the promotion of pharmacy.
Sanford was a student in the inaugural Pharmacy Technology Program of Jones County Junior College which began in 1998. She earned her Associate in Applied Science Degree in 2000, which was in addition to the Associates Degree she had previously earned at JCJC. Since that time she has earned a Bachelor's degree in Health Related Professions and a Master's in Education degree from William Carey University. She has also been a Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board since 2000.
While a student in the program she became a part time employee at a local hospital and transitioned to full time upon graduation. In 2002, she was employed by Jones County Junior College as an instructor in the Pharmacy Technology Program where she has since served as the laboratory instructor and clinical coordinator. In that role she has trained and helped influence over 100 pharmacy technicians who are now nationally certified and are employed by area pharmacies. During her tenure, she has trained technicians, influenced the practice of pharmacy in our state, and has been a model representative for Jones County Junior College.
