Wayne County Center

wayne county center 1 The JCJC Wayne County Center in Waynesboro is taking shape with expectations to begin holding classes in Fall 2013. Training opportunities for area residents include practical nursing and technical skills training. Adult basic education/GED services, small business development, along with credit and non-credit classes will also be offered in the  Wayne County Center.

Without the support and assistance from the Wayne County Board of Supervisors and the Wayne County School Board, this facility would not be possible.  It is located across from the current High School Vo-Tech Center.

Twayne county center 2ogether, JCJC and the South Mississippi Planning and Development District secured $1.1 million in federal grant money from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration for the project. The grant requires the approximately 11,000 square foot facility to be constructed to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) specifications, which should help reduce the cost of maintaining the structure.

Athletic Update

football 2012 The Bobcat football team was on a roll beating Gulf Coast, ending an eight year losing streak.  They also managed to beat rival Pearl River before easily knocking out division foes, East Central, Hinds and Southwest. The 18th-ranked Bobcats ended the season, however with a loss to Northwest, and a 6-3 overall record. JCJC's 5-1 tally in the South Division created a three-way tie for first place in the division. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were denied a berth in the MACJC playoffs because Mississippi Gulf Coast clinched the No. 1 seed in the South with its victory over East Central, finishing 8-1 overalady soccer 2012ll. Copiah-Lincoln gets the second seed because of its victory over the Bobcats earlier this season.

The Lady Soccer team climbed the national ranks early in the season as it took care of business defeating everyone in its path to the top.  After blanking opponents all season and beating PRCC twice, the Bobcats lost to thier Wildcat rival as they played in the state championship game. An injury plagued team couldn't hold on to the win in the end as PRCC shut-out Jones.

The Bobcat Soccer team also played for a state title and battled valiantly, but could not defeat the North'mens soccers top seed. The only goal of the game was made with around 10 minutes left to play in the state championship game against Holmes. The Bobcats ended the season at 5-8-1.

Don't miss the basketball teams as they hit the court for their first home game on Thursday, November 1st.
