A Word from Your Chapter President

It's hard to believe that January is over already.  The  year is quickly moving along.  Also moving along are our Public Outreach projects and EduCode.

In this newsletter, our Public Outreach Committee Chair, David Goldstein, outlines what is on the horizon for our community involvement endeavors.

EduCode 2014 begins March 10, 2014.  That's less than five weeks away to what many call the best opportunity for code training nationally.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the Orleans.  We have been working with ICC to provide certification testing at EduCode 2014 and an agreement and logistics have finally been completed.

Our organization is only as strong as the volunteers that work within it.  Thus, we would love to have more members work on all of our committees.  Whatever your interest may be, just let me know and we welcome your contributions.

We were honored by having ICC President Steve Jones install our new officers at the installation banquet at the Red Rock Country Club on January 18.  Steve is a great speaker and spoke very highly of the projects with which our chapter is involved.

As always, your Board of Directors welcomes all suggestions and comments, so please keep them coming!  Have a great day!

Very Sincerely,

Al Ellis

Chapter President

Public Outreach

It looks to be an aggressive year for the Public Outreach Committee...and we need your help!

The Public Outreach Committee, the SNICC arm for working on Community Involvement will get started very shortly. We will be scheduling our first meeting the latter part of February, so if you have not signed up as of yet please do.

Some of our 2014 Goals:

  • Toddler Swim Program- This year, we will be working again with the various Clark County municipalities to provide each of them a grant for Toddler Swim Lessons. Southern Nevada Children Drowning Prevention Coalition will again be making a donation to this fund along with participating at April Pools Day.
  • Clark County Public Education Fund (CCPEF)- We will work with the local educational program and award four (4) student's college scholarships in the amount of $3,000.00 each. This year our grant has been extended an additional $6,000.00 to work with students who are already in college and need assistance. This new aspect will be reviewed by our scholarship committee over the next few weeks. Your feedback is welcome.
  • EduCode 2014 - We will assist with EduCode in working the exhibit table for the event as well as other opportunities that may present themselves. Volunteers will be needed.
  • High School Technical Training Program - Our program to provide technical assistance to our local high school students continues. We do need your assistance in providing mentorships. If you are interested please let us know.
  • These are just the programs for the 1st half of 2014, we will have more to consider, so please join in.

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Public Outreach Chair: David Goldstein of GeoTek, 702-374-6043 or dgoldstein@geotekusa.com.
