Chapter Members,

As the summer heats up the Public Outreach gets a little bit of a cool down.

The Executive Board continues to work on the implementation and planning of the programs that the Chapter expressed desire in pushing forward in funding, including education and grant programs and code development, as the 2013 ABM approaches.

We are also working on modifications to the bylaws, updating the strategic plan and reviewing the new annual budget.  Information on these and other topics to be discussed at the Chapter Lunch Meeting.

HSTT
ICC High School Technical Training

Last June, Mike Teemant had the opportunity to speak at the annual meeting of the Clark  County School District regarding the career academies and programs.

Mike explained the ICC High School Technical Training Program (HSTTP) and the benefits that incorporating code instruction in the construction and design programs would have for their students. Packets were provided to Mike for each of the schools from James Ellwood at ICC. After presenting the packets Mike invited all those schools that were interested in participating to provide a completed membership application so that the Chapter can distribute the $2000 grant, as approved by the membership, for the first half of the year.

Four of the schools provided an application to participate with a commitment of two additional schools that will provide their applications soon. With the renewal of the East Career and Technical Academy the Southern Nevada Chapter of ICC will be supporting the membership of seven schools for the HSTTP.

A big thank you to the chapter for the support of this important program.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

While things are somewhat quiet, Greg Franklin, Kevin McOsker and the Public Outreach Chair are re-defining the scope and breadth of the scholarship program, they are creating to business points and criteria points that the Board will review. They are looking at the possibility of carrying the high school students that were previous award winners through their college programs for years 2, 3 and 4.  This will allow the Chapter to maintain a stream of individuals into the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction fields.  Obviously, this will require Board review and Chapter approval.
