A word from your Chapter President | |
Chapter Members,
We are halfway through the year and still very busy. I am currently working on modifications to the bylaws as well as updating the strategic plan. The 2013 ABM is fast approaching and the gears are changing toward code development preparation.
I have spoken with a few companies about the financial audit and will have more information for you at the next Chapter meeting.
It is clear the desire of the membership is to increase code development and grant programs. The Executive Board is busy planning on how to implement these items.
Thank you to all who volunteer, we could not do it without you.

EduCode 2014 |
EduCode 2014 is fast approaching and we are in the last steps of finalizing the classes and instructors for this event.
We are looking at 14 tracks with an excellent variety of classes for everyone. The committee is also looking at various options for lunches, with the possibility of a "cracker barrel" style one day.
The committee has been meeting weekly and can still use help from anyone interested in donating some time. Anyone interested in volunteering their time should contact Alan Ellis at 267-3911 or email me at alan.ellis@cityofhenderson.com.
Thanks,
Al |

Well now that summer is upon us, and we have completely funded the Toddler Swim Grant program, we hope the young Toddler's are enjoying themselves in pools throughout Clark and Nye Counties, safely! I would like to say a special thanks to Greg Blackburn who attended all the meetings with me (and had to cover one of them without me). Also to Valarie, who was a great assistant telling me what to do and when!

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
While things are somewhat quiet, Greg Franklin, Kevin McOsker and I will be re-defining the scope and breadth of the scholarship program. We will be creating the business and criteria points that the Board will review. We will exploring the possibility of carrying the high school students that were previous award winners through their college programs for years 2, 3 and 4. This will allow the Chapter to maintain a stream of individuals into the world of the Built Environment fields. Any modifications to the program will be brought to the Board for review and Chapter approval.
SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
While talking of the scholarship program I had the pleasure of attending the annual Clark County Public Education Foundation program last month at the Venetian. All I can say is... "It was great!" I was able to witness over 800 students, graduating and getting rewarded for their hard work. Nearly $1,000,000 in scholarships was awarded. I noted one student went up to receive over eight individual awards just for herself.
