A word from your Chapter President | |
The Southern Nevada Chapter has requested to be the host city for The 2015 ABM. We are competing against Oklahoma, Colorado, and Southern California. Letters asking for support of this event is currently going out to all neighboring ICC Chapters as well as state and local government.
We will let you know what City gets to host the 2015 ABM. If we are selected it will be the first time that Las Vegas has hosted an ICC ABM. The last time Las Vegas hosted an ABM was for ICBO in 1995.
We welcome any assistance in making this happen. To get in volved in YOUR chapter, contact David Goldstein or myself.
Chapter President

High School Technical Training Program
| |
The Public Outreach Committee is needing assistance with the High School Technical Training Program. We need at least three mentors that can help at each of the technical high schools to implement this program.
This year we will be sponsoring as many as five schools for this great program. We need someone that can keep in touch with one school and help keep us apprised for what they may need in the line of speakers, materials and any other assistance that they may need to implement the program that we are sponsoring.
Mike Teemant has volunteered to help continue working with the East Career and Technical Academy. David Goldstein has volunteered to continue working with the North Career and Technical Academy
The High School Technical Training Program (HSTTP) was put together by ICC. This program allows high schools to provide training and certificates, for students, so that they can have a leg up in their chosen construction field. The HSTTP is designed to give instructors the most flexibility, while introducing the building codes to students in the environment of construction instruction. This is not only beneficial to the students that are working towards the construction trades, but also those that are working on design of the built environment. The more involved that the chapter can be in supporting this program locally the greater success the students will have.
If you would like to have any information on becoming a volunteer and adopting the school please call Mike Teemant at 809-5688 or email at MikeTeemant@Gmail.com.

Nevada State Office of Energy offers EduCode Grant
| |
A great job by our own Don White!
Energy Fit Nevada, through the Nevada State Office of Energy (NSOE) offered a reimbursement grant for EduCode. The original grant was for $20,000, which was allocated in less than two weeks from publication.
We were awarded an additional $4000, that was quickly spoken for, as there was already a stand-by list for cancellations.
This grant will bring
a total of 56 grantees who are registered and enrolled in a total of 106 EduCode classes. Though we are having a few jurisdictional employees attending this year, the grant was to target primarily architects, contractors and tradesmen that actually do the building design and construction per the energy code.
We hope this program will continue as it brings more students to EduCode!
Thank you again Don for your hard work and dedication to this program.
