Forward in Faith Update

Activity, in Forward in Faith areas, is still ongoing - most notably addressing sanctuary acoustics.  Please know that we are not done yet!  We continue to make careful steps to refine the acoustics in the space.  Here are a few details about what is currently underway:
  • Bids have been received for a new monitor system in the choir loft which will enable the choir to hear adequately and, at the same time, cut down on the sonic interference happening throughout the room with our current arrangement.
  • Bids have been received for acoustical wall treatments in the balcony and main floor to help control some of the most problematic sound reflections identified by our acoustician and confirmed by our recent experimentation session.
  • Bids have been received for additional ADA approved assisted listening devices.
  • Another experimentation session has been scheduled for mid-June to determine the impact of re-aiming the main overhead speakers for more even coverage, plus trying other wall treatment suggestions
Given our current Forward in Faith budget status, we are taking a methodical and cautious experiment/treat/re-test approach to make the most cost-effective improvements possible.  So during this time, if you find yourself having difficulty hearing during worship, consider sitting in one of the center sections, the first eight rows.  The Forward in Faith team appreciates your continued patience.  We've come a long way since the re-dedication last year, but the team is well aware we still have work to do.

Ministry Architects Consulting
We value the youth of our church and are committed to building a sustainable youth ministry that will have a deep impact.  That's why we are developing a game plan together and we want you to be a part of it!

We have invited Ministry Architects to visit us on June28, 29, and 30.  Ministry Architects will spend the majority of their time listening to a variety of groups within the church through focused listening groups.  We hope to see participation in those groups from parents, volunteers, youth and people who just love our youth.  We want your insight, your frustrations and your dreams to be heard.

After spending 2 days in these listening groups (and taking copious notes), the Ministry Architects team will hunker down, write a report and share with us what they've learned about the youth programs - including assets, challenges, and how we compare to youth ministries around the country - and where it seems that God might be taking us next.  On June 30 at 6:00 pm in the Dining hall the report will be presented to the congregation, laying out the specific recommendations and a blueprint for how to move forward.  If you would like to be a part of this process and have your voice heard, please email or call Kyle Bender, 512.215.5123.

Below is our schedule for listening groups and we would love for your voice to be heard!  If you are part of more than one group, you only need to attend one session.  Each session will last an hour and fifteen minutes.  Sign up here.

Shepherds Needed for Families Affected by Flooding
WHPC is a member of the Austin Distaster Relief Network (ADRN).  ADRN is responding to the recent flooding in several areas.  To date, at least 100 homes have been flooded and 50 families have requested assistance from ADRN. Those numbers will surely increase as heavy rains continue throughout our area.  You can assist these families by becoming a Disaster Relief Shepherd and helping them through the journey of recovery.  Get details about becoming a Disaster Relief Shepherd here or contact WHPC's disaster relief coordinator Becky Lanier.

Don't throw out that gently used backpack!
Our homeless brothers and sisters are always in need of backpacks.  As you are wrapping up the school year, consider donating those gently used backpacks - or donate a new one - to Feed My People.  WHPC Student Ministry will be collecting them in the youth room now until the end of June.
