Handgun Signs

Pursuant to legislation that took effect in Texas this month, Westlake Hills Presbyterian Preschool must now notify anyone entering our church building that handguns, either concealed or carried openly, are forbidden on the premises. Signage with this information is regulated by State of Texas law in both content and size and must be posted during preschool operating hours.
Children's Musical
Sunday, February 7, 9:30 and 11 a.m. // Sanctuary // The WHPC Children's Choir will present It's Cool in the Furnace: A Musical about Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. The children's rendition of this story from the Old Testament book of Daniel includes costumes, choreography, a live band, some surprises and lots of singing. Please note: There will be no 8:15 a.m. worship service on February 7. Children's Sunday School classes will not meet at 9:30 or 11 a.m. Children are invited to join their families in worship to see the musical. Childcare will be available at both hours for children in Pre-K and younger.

Ash Wednesday Worship Services
Wednesday, February 10, noon and 6:30 p.m. // Sanctuary // Begin the season of Lent with a worship service of reflection, communion and the imposition of ashes.

Dinner on Wednesday Nights
Remember to make reservations if you or your family plan to eat dinner at the church on Wednesday evenings as part of Wednesday Night Life. The meals, catered by What's for Lunch Austin, include an entree, side dish, salad/veggie and dessert. Registration and online payment is required and closes each week on Monday at noon. // More info and registration here.

DivorceCare
Begins Tuesday, February 2, 6:30-8:30 p.m. // Lake Hills Church, 11431 Bee Caves Road // DivorceCare is a weekly support group and seminar led by facilitators who understand the pain of divorce and separation. The next 13-week session will be held February 2-May 3. // More info: Diane Pollard

1st Thursday Women's Lunch

Lenten Life Group Study
A Lenten study is being written by Associate Pastor Stacy Ikard to correspond with the Lenten Sermon Series "Dead ends, Detours and Destinations." Existing Life Groups will be participating in this study and a new Life Group, led by Stacy, is being formed. The group will meet on Wednesday nights, 6:30-7:30 p.m., beginning on February 17. // Sign up here for a Life Group.

GriefShare
Begins Thursday, February 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m. // Room 202 // This national program is designed to assist people in walking the journey of grief with support along the way. The 13-week session includes videos and small group conversation. Cost is $15. // More info: Carolyn Strickland 
Stephen Ministry Spring Speaker Series
Monday, February 1, 6:30-7:30 p.m. // Room 200 // Stephen Ministry will be hosting four special speaker presentations this spring. The first speaker is Liz Gentry, a licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed professional counselor, and senior director of Austin Family Institute, speaking on Building Trust in Relationships. Meals Ministry Team
Friday, February 5, 6-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 6, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. // WHPC Kitchen // Join us for our next cooking event as we prepare meals for care teams to deliver to people during times of need. Austin Samaritans Mission Trip
April 16-23 // Join us as we finish out a computer room, paint a mural and lead VBS at Christian schools in Managua, Nicaragua. Skills needed are enthusiasm and a love for serving others in the name of Jesus. // More info: Ki-Mi Fields

WHPC Nicaragua Family Mission Trip

Alternative Valentines Gift-Giving
January 31-February 14 // Say "Happy Valentine's Day" in a unique way this year! You can honor someone who has made a difference in your life and ultimately impact the world by making a gift to mission in that person's name. Actions at the regular Session meeting on January 26, 2016:
  • Shared in Bible study based on 1 Corinthians 13.
  • Welcomed Stacy Ikard, Stated Supply Associate Pastor of Congregational Life.
  • Congratulated Mitch Kolls, WHPC member, on his call as Co-Pastor, Dripping Springs Presbyterian Church. Mitch is the son-in-law of WHPC members Nancy and Mike Douglas.
  • Authorized Global and Local Missions Teams to offer Mission Valentine's Cards on January 31 and February 7 for gifts to mission organizations.
  • Approved the motion presented by Elder David Barstow that WHPC request Mission Presbytery consider and adopt Controlling HIV and AIDs Globally.
  • Following previous months' discussions of WORSHIP, CONNECT and GROW initiatives, discussed the GO initiative.
  • Acknowledged new State of Texas legislation regarding handgun restrictions in preschools.
