The Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Northwest Texas

WELCOME to the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Northwest Texas--a place where the vast open plains are as wondrous as the big sky above!

As depicted in the pectoral cross of Bishop J. Scott Mayer, the stars, moon, and sun are representative of the beauty one may find in this region of Texas.

The landscape, covering 77,000 square miles is as diverse as the cities and people, with the canyons and rangelands of the Staked Plains; agricultural fields abounding; and the rough and ready country of the Rolling Plains and Permian Basin. The people here are known for their warm and friendly smiles, making one feel like an old and trusted friend.

Noteworthy News from Northwest Texas
Are there members of your congregation who don't receive
the diocesan newsletter?

The answer to that question is undoubtedly "yes." There are a few people from our parishes who subscribe to our monthly online newsletter, and there are some who subscribe that don't even live in our diocese. We know, however, there are more out there who may wish to subscribe but either don't know we have a diocesan newsletter, or don't know how to subscribe. Therefore...
we-need-you
  • Help us start a forwarding tradition.  Please forward this newsletter to one friend from your own parish whom you think would enjoy knowing more about our diocese.
  • Spread the word.  Talk about the newsletter to help spark interest.
  • Open your email every month.  It's easy to read the newsletter in the preview section of your email program, such as Outlook, but it skews our data concerning the number of "opens" and active readers. Please click on the email to open it fully for reading purposes. Doing so will give us a better idea about our readership.
  • Help an older, less technologically capable friend to enjoy the newsletter by printing the newsletter for them each month.  Or find someone in your parish who would like to make it their ministry. We want to make sure everyone who wishes to read the newsletter is able to do so.

Thank you, faithful readers, for helping us spread the Good News of Christ and his Church in the Diocese in Northwest Texas!

AUGUST IS IMMUNIZATION AWARENESS MONTH
From the National Public Health Information Coalition

While immunizations have significantly reduced the incidence of many serious infectious diseases, vaccination rates for some diseases are not meeting national public health goals. More importantly, immunizations aren't just for children. They are needed throughout our lifetime.

There are several important things to remember about vaccines.

It Was a Very Good Year!

This fiscal year ending on June 30, 2015, was a very good year. But the best one is . . . the one coming up! Many thanks to alumni, parishes, dioceses, friends, trustees, and regents for their gifts of time, talent, and resources to the University in fiscal year 2015. The $3.89 million in contributions recorded for the Sewanee Annual Fund at the close of books on June 30, 2015, set a new record.

Total gifts from all constituents designated just for the School of Theology came to a hearty $1,731,097. School of Theology alumni contributed $95,163. Twenty-four of the University's 28 owning dioceses and two non-owning dioceses made contributions totaling $83,570. Parish gifts to the seminary, down a little from 2014, totaled $226,617. Special thanks goes to the School of Theology class of 2015 and the School of Theology's class stewards who boasted 100% giving participation in 2015. Looking for an uptick in donors and dollars in 2016! For more information about how you can help Sewanee's School of Theology set a new record this year, contact Sukey Byerly, sbyerly@sewanee.edu, 931.598.1217, and/or go to our giving page.
