|
 Monday, March 31, 5:30 PM
New Member Orientation at 5:15 PM
Food & Beverages Available
AGENDA:
Swear-in board member Michael Weaver as DMA Vice-President for the remained of Thomas Blomster's elected term. Regretfully, Thomas tendered his resignation eff. 4/1/14 to pursue career opportunities. A new c ollaboration between the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and the Colorado Rockies. This could be a model business partnership at a time when symphony orchestras are struggling nationwide. The musicians support the effort, but the AFM claims the orchestra is violating national media agreements. Is this something that needs changing?
Presentation on features and benefits of DMA's new website ( www.denvermusicians.org) and how to use this powerful tool for networking and promotion. Please note that this site is still under construction.Denver Musicians Association

Newark Airport Workers Fed Up With Poverty Wages
|
By Doug Cunningham March 26, 2014 by laborradio [Rally Nat Sound]: "I'm very happy to see everybody here this mornin'! I'm fired up! Are you fired up?" Newark airport workers are sick and tired of poverty wages as airlines there ignore the New York/NewJersey Port Authority's directive to raise wages by a dollar an hour on the way to a minimum of $10.10 an hour. Kevin Brown is a Vice-President with SEIU 32BJ. [Kevin Brown]: "Anybody know who Jess Smisek is? He's president and CEO of United Airlines. He earns more in one hour than the workers who clean his airport - his airplanes - in three months! Shame on you! Shame on you!"

Quiet Song for Band- Grade 1/2, by Debbie Davidson. A great song for the first band concert of the year! It uses the first five notes typically used in band method books, and is inspired by "Bolero." A quiet tune begins with the flutes and then gradually all of the instruments are added for a big climax before it tapers back down to the flutes. Sure to be a crowd-pleaser! $25 Creekside Publishing Company Available mail order through www.creeksidepublishingcompany.com or through Flesher-Hinton. Finale to Beethoven Symphony No. 9- Grade 2+ for full orchestra and SAB chorus, Debbie Davidson. Arranged to make this amazing classic accessible for middle school students. Key signatures and changes are simplified. Vocal parts are all doubled, and the Baritone part is optional. An advanced part is included for extra support - when this piece was premiered at Cherry Creek Academy, a teacher played this advanced part on the cello and an advanced piano student played it on piano. Most of the second parts (i.e. second clarinet, second flute, second violin) can be handled by students in their second year of instruction. The Cherry Creek Academy performance involved singers, grades 5 - 8, band members, grades 6 - 8, and orchestra members, grades 6-8. $65 Creekside Publishing Company Availabe mail order through www.creeksidepublishingcompany.com or through Flesher-Hinton.
