What to Expect at This Year's IPR Trustees Research Symposium

An area of practice, like internal communications, that doesn't have firm roots in a more established area of practice, experiences various growing pains. Like a kid without a family, it goes from hand to hand and no one really takes good care of it.


Someone needs to become accountable for internal communications. If professors of marketing or human resource management consider this their domain, they should introduce internal communications as a mandatory course into their curricula. If on the other hand public relations specialists see this as a logical extension of their work, why are there so few courses on internal communications in public relations programs? Read more. 


Dr. Ansgar Zerfass, a leader in corporate communication research, will receive the 2014 Pathfinder Award, the highest academic honor bestowed by IPR. Zerfass, professor and chair of strategic communication at the University of Leipzig in Germany, is known for his contribution to the international body of knowledge by establishing the European Communication Monitor, the largest annual study in strategic communications worldwide, since 2007. 

Zerfass will present "Challenges for Communication Leaders - Insights from International Research" at the third annual Trustees Research Symposium on November 13 in New York City. Read more.
 
 

Fred Cook, CEO at Golin & former IPR Trustee, received PRSA's highest individual honor, the Gold Anvil Award, at the PRSA International Conference on October 14 in Washington, D.C. The Gold Anvil is considered to be PRSA's lifetime achievement award and is presented to a practitioner whose accomplishments have made a major contribution to the profession.

The Arthur W. Page Society, in alliance with IPR, conducts this annual competition to find research that contributes to the profession's body of knowledge and provides practical suggestions on how to improve the corporate public relations function. Case studies will be accepted by students at accredited schools of business, communications or journalism that focus on corporate communications and the practice of public relations. Deadline for submissions is January 15, 2015. Read more.
