This law enacted in April of 2006, allows the first $150 of monthly child support payments to be passed directly to families. This amount is then disregarded in determining TANF benefits. Evaluation results suggest that this policy has contributed to an increase of child support payments from noncustodial parents with current support orders for children on TANF.
