PASTOR'S CORNER

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. - Romans 8:26-27

Somebody told me recently, "This church prays a lot."  I am not quite sure if they meant we pray too much or if they were just commenting on their past experiences in church.  Either way I took it as a great compliment!  Prayer is the foundation of all that we do.  If we are not asking God for guidance, asking God for strength, asking God for wisdom, then I don't know how we can be the church.  If we are not praying for each other, for our home-bound, for our sick, then I don't know how we can be the church.  Please set aside time each day to pray and know that if the words don't come to you that is okay;  the Holy Spirit intercedes for us all, helping us in our weakness, praying the prayers of our hearts with sighs too deep for words.  So set aside some time to be in conversation with God!

In prayer for you all,

George

CLARKSTON SEWING CLUB

Women and girls of the Clarkston refugee community are gathering on Thursdays at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church to learn and refine basic sewing machine skills.  Under the tutelage of experienced volunteers from the Global Village Project, a school in Decatur that serves teenage refugee girls whose educations have been interrupted by war, the program participants use fabric, sewing machines and related equipment to design and produce personal items that will find application in their own lives.  Good sewing machine practice and care, identification of various types of fabrics and their best use, proper measurement techniques, and simple color theory are all covered in the course of the 8 meetings scheduled for June, July, and August. The club is limited to 10 participants at this time.
