PASTOR'S CORNER

Each person should test their own work and be happy with doing a good job and not compare themselves with others. Each person will have to carry their own load.  Those who are taught the word should share all good things with their teacher.

Make no mistake, God is not mocked. A person will harvest what they plant. Those who plant only for their own benefit will harvest devastation from their selfishness, but those who plant for the benefit of the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit.

Rodger Nishioka preached at Columbia Theological Seminary on Tuesday and I had the pleasure of being in worship with absolutely no responsibilities!  In the middle of his sermon he said, "Father Tatro, you reap what you sow, if you plant bush beans you will get bush beans, God will not be mocked!"  It made for a good laugh for everybody who was there on Monday when Jin, Marva, Gad, Fred, and I led worship and I re-preached my sermon from Sunday.

I confess that I am like the Galatians in many ways.  I am not always happy doing a good job - I want to see the results I want to see.  Too often I compare myself with other pastors. Yet I take great comfort in the sure knowledge that God has called me for this time in the life of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. God is showering the seeds we have planted with love and grace and we are seeing an abundant harvest in the community.  It is good to be reminded that this is the only measure of success worth measuring.  I am thankful for God's word to me this week and invite you all to join with me in reading Galatians this week listening for God's word to us.  Galatians 6:4-8

In Christ,

George
